Since the new MH highschool isn't for most Mint Hill families, I suggest we lobby to change the name, take "mint hill" out! That way, future residents won't raise questions about the boundaries or perhaps even find out how stupid the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board acted on this decision.

Why call the sky purple, if its blue??
You obviously have a dog in this fight and I'm so sorry for your upset.
However, "Mint Hill High School" was named for the location of the school, it IS in Mint Hill. I fail to see how this is a PR problem for the city of Mint Hill, though I agree that it would seem an obvious conclusion that the kids of Mint Hill would actually get to attend the school.

I somewhat see your point here. But I think possible problems are not a definite thing and if so many, many years away. IF Mint Hill High School does not become one of the top achieving high schools in Charlotte or worse yet becomes one of the school parents try to avoid then the Town of Mint Hill could also very easily be associated with that negativity. This train of thought does make the assumption that Mint Hill kids would help the school succeed and that those currently zoned might not. I'm not even 100% sure that is your point.
I will say this, the decision CMS made greatly disappoints me and I do not understand how my new home can be walking distance from the Town Hall building but not zoned for MHHS. Does it surprise me CMS would do this? Of course not, why would they allow any community to remain unified when all they have ever tried to do is break up communities for the sake of percentages and demographics. They care more about numbers and decimals points than the well being or happiness of our children.
While we are on the subject can anyone find out which board members voted for/against the assignment plan? Also when these people are up for re-election.

We are walking distance from Weddington HS and not zoned for it either. Seems odd to me.
CMS school zoning makes no sense to me either. I think it is quite regrettable that the good people of Mint Hill voted for a bond to have the school built and none of their kids can attend. It makes much more sense to bus kids from goodness knows where, costing a lot more money. How does this make any sense? Is this zoning for the sake of diversity or is there more to it?

LOL! Really, who doesn't want a school their kids can walk to, or at least be close by? My family is from further South than NC and I know for a fact my Mom walked to school (10 miles uphill, in the heat, of course ).

Be careful they may rename it the Barack Obama HS if given the opportunity.
