Okay I'm trying to search some posts here related to child care centers, and other alternatives, not finding too much.

I will be looking for day care when I go to school, and that of course can be accomplished through a center, which I will research when I get there.

Hypothetically speaking, what's the market like for in home child care providers? Say I work in the evenings and need full time child care. A drop off center would not be logistically possible because I'd be at work before the school age children get home and I wouldn't get home until after they went to bed. I would expect the person to get dinner for the kids and put them to bed. Assist the older kids with their homework if a question arose.

I have 4 children 11, 9, 2 and 1. I know that sounds like a lot but the older two are self propelled, independant, and mature, and need minimal supervision, so the main focus would be on the babies. (read: oldest child will be complaining she doesn't need a babysitter when she sees this)

I was thinking of hiring an au pair, but I'd rather hire someone local if possible. Recycle some money through the economy. Are there many people out there? Also, what's the going rate now?

Trying to figure out if it'd be worth it.

This depends a lot on how much money you are able to spend. I know someone personally who has lots of professional childcare experience but is now going back to school. She might be interested in working "off" hours. I would guess there are a lot of students who might consider the same so either UNCC or CPCC might be a good place to start looking. If you are considering an au pair that seems to me that you might understand the difference between a babysitter and a true childcare provider. If you want someone else to do the searching for you there are several agencies in Charlotte who will find several candidates for you to interview. The only one I would recommend is Private Placements in Dilworth off of East Blvd. I was placed with several families through them and they are extremely professional and put their potential nannies through a serious interview process.

If you want a center, there is a center(may be a home care set up) in South Charlotte that does evening/night care. Try Charlottemommies.com. You'll find the info there.
