Certainly there is no way we can cut back on running buses 100,000+ miles a day.
What does that cost?!
Well...I meant the firings of people, not specific costs like buses. If you want my opinion on that, it's to have a 2 mile bubble around schools before you get bus service, no matter the age. Have the City do a blitzkeig style sidewalk program to ensure there are paved, safe routes for the kids. This is how I grew up...that along with a good talk from the parent's about not stopping to talk to anyone, and they'll be fine!
But back on topic...I find it hard to believe that there was that much extra staff sitting around that could be fired without having any effect on the functionality of the system.

Don't know the figures or anything but this morning most of our neighbourhood had to go to a central point for bus pick up whereas in the past the buses have driven all over it. Perhaps they are heading in the right direction. Again I am hoping for the best.
She is actually a Sophomore so we did handle the chaos very well last year.
Problem is, when Parent Assist went up on August 17th, her schedule was wrong then.
In fact, a lot of students had messed up schedules.
We got phone calls that night to tell us that many schedules were incorrect and that new one's would be handed out on the first day of school.
Well, my daughters is still exactly the same as it was on Parent Assist.
Nobody made any changes to hers.
the Parent assist was not updated and was closed over the summer - the schedules up there were from last year as we did the same thing and checked. But we did get schedules in the mail and they were changed. My son is also a 10th grader.
I'm sure they will have things sorted out. Most schools are chaotic for a few days.
I agree. I remember when I was going to school - in the dark ages - our first days of school were spent talking about how nothing was in place and our schedules were going to be changed etc etc. We turned out fine - well almost!!
Yo!.With alot of last second enrolements and transfers its common for it to take a day or 2 to refine EVERY students class times. Does the kid not have any of her books yet or no way to find a book that she will be using this year? If so she doesnt have to just "SIT" there and complain and do nothing. She can be reading her books .Seems like she would want to do that if she is really a good student...Check back in a week and then if shes not in all of her classes then complain...Gez and by the way dont forget that ALL cell phones are not to be used during the school day.
I would try to be a little understanding. I think I heard a story about this last week. They knew that there would be scheduling issues for a lot f kids due to the layoffs/rehires that happened this summer.
The mass firings didn't take place once the state (finally) passed a budget. The issue, in this case, is really that the state waited too long to pass the budget.
