I think Boston Ferns are beautiful but I have never seen as many as I see here in NC! It seems nearly everyone has at "least" one hanging on their front porch. Is this just because they are so pretty and grow well here or is there another reason?? My DH said maybe they keep insects away or something like that. Just curious.....

Hello!

I love them because they add pretty color, are low maintenance, and very forgiving of my gardening skills (or lack of).

I have 3 hanging from my porch, just love them. The birds also like to nest in them. I couldn't keep them alive in So Cal, too hot apparently. I just popped up those removable hooks with the sticky backs because I didn't want to put holes in metal, they work great!

I would like to get some but my wife won't approve of birds nesting in them.

So from what I am reading here it is because people just enjoy them! Good enough...I was just curious if there was another reason I was unaware of!

I'm not in Charlotte (yet) but I can tell you that everyone here in Ohio has them, too.

I have one that I keep indoors on a pedistal. It looks great with the long green fronds hanging down. Love it!

They're pretty, easy to care for, and cheap. They are hard to water, however, when you have constant house guests.
