Regardless of the area around North Lake (which is mostly nice but the mall has had some issues because some less desirable areas within easy distance of it), you will be working in south Charlotte and should plan to live in south Charlotte - your life will be much easier that way

I agree! If your going to work in S. Charlotte you might want to live closer to S. Charlotte. Have you thought about the Ayrsley neighborhood? Its SW charlotte, right of 485. There is a new community there called Gramercy Square. It is VERY nice and has lots of amenities and most utilities included with rent. No I dont work here but I work for a company that does alot of business with apartment communities throughout the US.

The North Lake Mall area is newly developed (like within the past 2-3 years) and while there is a bunch of stuff in that immediate vicinity, I get the impression it is largely a destination location (Is there a grocery store beyond the Super Target?). I can't recall if you said you were single, but I don't think there is much of a night life of any sort going on there. Not that bars is the only way to meet people, but having hangouts for locals is appealing (at least it was when I was single).

I second (or third?) SouthPark (if Uptown is out of the question).

Um, Renee, he already said he'd be working in S. Charlotte. So, I would definitely NOT recommend Huntersville.

I still don't understand why someone would want to live on the opposite end of the city from where they work? I know if I had a job I would be researching the 10 closest apartment communities from where my job is at.

Pretty clear that Renee joined just to try and sell her services... I've reported the posts.

Since he isn't from this region, I think he has no perception about driving times and what a mess commute traffic would be from Northlake to S. Charlotte.

Trust the advice you have been given, NORTH2SOUTH - you don't wanna work in S. CLT and commute from the Northlake Mall area if you can avoid it.

Maybe check out the Yorktown gardens apartments. Older well established with lots of local diversity. Only 3 minutes to south park and one block off of south blvd.

I personally commute from the Huntersville area to Ballantyne for work, and will speak from experience. If you're going to make that kind of commute, you want to be in a position of 495 outer loop in the morning and inner loop in the evening, otherwise you're in stop and go traffic during rush hour. Otherwise, the commute isn't bad. I've done worse commutes in the Cleveland, Ohio vicinity.

I don't have any housing recommendations as I don't know the area well enough, but living closer to where you work is always a better options. The area around North Lake is very nice and very up and coming, but the commute is terrible if you end up taking the wrong direction on 485 or 77.
