Default Looking for a nice day at a vineyard for wine tasting.

I am looking to take my mother and sister for a enjoyable day out at a winery for some wine tasting at a nice location with scenery. They are coming down from NY...any suggestions. I am in the Charlotte area.

Looks like they have live music on Thursday evenings.

Depends on how far you want to go out from Charlotte.

BILTMORE in Asheville, North Carolina, Americas Largest Home and More!. Biltmore is a few hours away up in Asheville, NC. They also have a large garden area. You can also tour the old mansion there which is pretty impressive

Childress Vineyards. Childress is about an hour away but I don't know how much scenery there is.

Also, here is a link to a map that has a lot of NC wineries on it. Vineyards & Wineries in North Carolina | NC Wineries & Vineyards

If you are heading out west towards Asheville, there are a few to check out along the way.

Owl's Eye Winery in Shelby - nice tasting room, scenery so-so.
Rock House Winery in Tryon - nice scenery, very cool tasting room in a small (you guessed it) rock house.

if it was me, I would avoid Biltmore if good wine is something you want. The stuff is pretty bad (rank) for what it cost and this is also quite a drive from Charlotte. It's also very touristy.

I would recommend heading north on I-77 and going to the area around Hwy 421. There are at least a 1/2 dozen or more wineries right there. This is about an hours drive from Charlotte, less from the lake.

However one of my favorites wineries is the small Waldensian Winery in Valdese. You can read about it at this link. The Waldensians are a small enclave of Italians who migrated to NC long ago. You don't hear much about them as most assume that all Italians went to NY.

Of course it is touristy, it is a tourist attraction. The gardens are very nice though. I don't like their wine either but I am far from a connoisseur.

The best scenery IMO is Raffaldini near Ronda, NC, about an hour or so up I-77 from Charlotte. North Carolina, NC Vineyard & Winery

Excellent wines, too.
