I have been meaning to go back - but somehow never think of them when we are deciding where to head. I have only been one time - in the evening - and it was delightful. I am so glad you mentioned them and gave us a thumbs up for brunch! This would be a really neat place to take out of town guests, too.
This is one of Charlotte's long term restaurants. It originally opened as the White Horse and was located further down on East Blvd in the building that later became the East Blvd Bar & Grill. The White Horse also once had a location at the Zayre shopping center that was located at Eastway and The Plaza back when that was more of a middle class part of town. It disappeared sometime in the late 80s when that shopping center became notorious and which was later torn down.
300 East moved to their present location back in the days where there were still a lot of abandoned homes in Dilworth and in order to do this, did some very extensive remodeling to turn that house it into a restaurant. I don't remember when they changed their name from White Horse to 300 East. It's one of the very very few places in Charlotte that has had pretty much the same menu the more than 3 decades that I have lived in CLT. The only other place I can think of that has been here longer with the same menu is South 21.
They have/had a very potent house drink called a Matilda Wong. I have heard they now limit it to two of these drinks/person.
Wow...blast from the past...we haven't eaten at 300 East in probably 10-15 years. Forgot it was still there. Really enjoyed it years back though.
A perfect lunch/lunch spot would be.....picking up a box of chicken from Prices Chicken Coop (cause it is to go only) and then heading to Freedom Park just down East Blvd on a nice Fall day...yum!
