Yes, but another poster mentioned that you need go east of I-95 for it.
The places I mentioned are within 45 mins, not 2+ hrs.

I'm sure the comment about having to go east of I-95 has more to do with the Eastern vs. Lexington/Piedmont BBQ debate than anything else. Even though I am a Charlotte native, I really llike the eastern NC style, but will certainly eat the Lexington style as well. Most of the people I know from eastern NC don't think that BBQ west of I-95 is any good, even those that claim to be "Eastern style."

Oh I know there are some decent Eastern NC places west of 95. I was just saying the best I've ever had have all been from east of 95. The Howards place in Lillington is about 2-2.5 hrs away.
There's one place in Greenville, called B's BBQ, that is awesome. They open every morning around 6 or 7 and only fix a certain amount every day. So they are usually sold out around noon.
Bubbas in Charlotte on Sunset Rd is pretty good, but always seem a little dry to me.

Weeeellllll,,,,,,
"Red" Bridges on 74 is indeed good. However, you can get into pretty heated arguments about whether Red's place on 74 is better than Alston Bridges place on Grover Street near the hospital. It's split about half and half, I'd say.
Personally, I prefer Alston Bridges - no smoking allowed, they accept credit cards, and the Q is equal to Red's, and you can get the coarse brown chop there which is really good.
Shelby is blessed with two really good BBQ places, that's for sure.

Oh, and regarding Mac's -
I've been to two of their locations. The pulled pork was really good at both.
They are well-known for their brisket - I tried that once at the South Blvd location, and was kind of disappointed. It was fairly dry, and they serve it "wet" (with sauce already on it). They should serve it dry and let the customer add as they see fit.
Next time I go I'll give the brisket another try, and ask them to serve it dry.
Love the beer selection!

LOL, thanks for the clarification. Some just say Bridges & some specify Bridges on 74. Next time I'll know enough to ask which one.
