YouTube - I Pledge!

There are some great messages here, but this is very similar to Hitler-youth propaganda from the late 30s.
I'm sorry if you can't see it.
And I would say the same thing if it was any GOPer.
Serve our great country, study hard, stay off drugs, help old people, but do not worship a man...

I already support the food bank, I've worked at Habitat for Humanity and Hurricane Relief, I already support local and distant missions.
Many of us already do this, it is not just an Obama thing...

It was removed from the website this morning after outrage.

Here is the story:

My Husband grew up in Russia in the 70's where he was "required to be" a Red Pioneer. Government Officials would come to the school at the beginning of each school year to speak to the youth and gain their "trust".

from the video...
2009 promises to be a historical and exciting year filled with lots of hope, change and community service. To encourage ever greater levels of service throughout the country, MySpace and Katalyst Media, a production company co-founded by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, teamed up with celebrities to record their personal pledges of service. The moving pledges illustrate how they will help make the nationwide change, inspired by President-elect Barack Obama, a reality. Directed by Demi Moore, the videos will be presented to President-elect Barack Obama during the inauguration festivities.

I'm not a Demi Moore fan, but even if I were, I don't see how we can ascribe something a private citizen did on their own to the president's video presentation next week.

Take a look at the link I posted. I really don't see anything objectionable.

ETA: I didn't watch the video, but if this is something Obama produced, please correct me.

Let me get this straight: you're using a video with Hollywood actors to support your position? Really?

To the best of my knowledge this was not produced by the Obama campaign.

The hatred over politics...man it's getting strong.

If you want to keep you kids home or in another room it is certainly a choice.

You can also dislike (hate?) a President...just as you can dislike a neighbor (and her views).

But I really, honestly, believe this is just Obama trying to do something "non-political" for a day (like any other Pres reading to kids in school) WITHOUT having people throw stones at him about healthcare, the economy, bailouts...etc.

This was probably the one thing he went to bed thinking he could pull off without much of a fight.

Come on, this isn't Right or Left.

It's about education -- an obvious issue in the US.

Man...we need one of those vigils again...

with candles.

People! Do you realize that most schools have cable hookups so that annoucements like this can be seen in school anyway? I really think that this post (like the one from Alabama) is rather stupid

Like the kids care or will understand. Since even the oldest kid in 5th grade is at least 8 years away from being a voter, you need not worry that Obama will try to get votes out of them for his reform. What do you think, your kids are going to come home and change your mind about the way you feel about Obama or health care reform.

It would be extremely disrespectful for parents to keep their children home. I wholeheartedly agree with the poster that said that they didn't agree with some of the stuff that Bush said, but still respected him as the president.

I traveled in Europe around the beginning of the war in Iraq and when people asked me how Americans felt about it, I backed my country though I didn't agree with the war or vote for the president that initiated it. I could have walked around the countries I visted bashing Bush, but I didn't because it is disrespectful. It also only makes Americans look stupid.

Grow up people.

don't get worked up about it. this isn't the first thread the OP has started with the intent of stirring things up. seems like the majority of people with school age children think it would be ridiculous to keep their kids home just b/c the president is broadcasting to the schools. I'm 100% sure it's some type of communist, Nazi, socialist, fascist propaganda, unless you are a Liberal.

Sunny, please close this ridiculous thread.
