Default Mooresville, Lake Norman, Kannapolic, Cornelius?????

I may be relocating to a new job in Mooresville. My wife and I are 28 with 2 kids (2.5 and 3 months). We would be middle income and are wondering where would be a nice place to live. I have never been to any of these places. I have been to Charlotte and I love Fort Mill or Tega Cay, but the drive would be terrible (I think to Mooresville). I also heard traffic in northern Charlotte is terrible as well.

Any suggestions of neighborhoods, schools, day cares, we can research would be great!! Thanks,

Mooresville is a nice community with good schools. If your job is there I'd suggest living there and not in Charlotte

Kannapolis would be at the bottom of my list. The LKN communities are nicer in general. More expensive, but nicer (better schools, more upscale, etc...)

Mooresville hands down.

Fort Mill & Tega Cay are both very nice, but I drive from Mooresville to Ft Mill for work & it takes me 50 minutes without traffic.

Neighborhoods depend on where in Mooresville you'll be working & what price range you're looking at, size of house, etc. Are you looking at foreclosures at all? There's one in my subdivision that's going for $189K. It's a beautiful home. Other homes for sale in the subd are priced at least $70K more.

The Mooresville Graded School District has very good schools. There are several private schools & day cares in the area. The east side of Mooresville, where I live, is a bit more laid-back, not as congested & you're close to all the shopping on the other side of the highway.

Feel free to PM me if you haveany questions. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi
We are in the process of moving to the Lake norman area bit by bit.
We love Mooresville, but we are on the West side of the I77 in 28117.
Both 28117 and 28115 have things to offer.
Good schools in the area too.Our son has just started at Lake Norman High and is loving it so far.

I would suggest either Mooresville itself or the North Mecklenburg cities of Huntersville, Cornelius or Davidson. All are North of Charlotte and would be an easy commute into Mooresville. The whole Lake Norman area is clogged with traffic. Good Luck!

Poppycock!
Traffic can be bad at peak times-just like anywhere else in the area, but even then it's manageable to us and worth it to live near the Lake. Traffic on I77 is usually worst from J18/19 (Huntersville) to J25 (Cornelius) but improves as you go further North/South.Depends what you are used to I suppose.
Takes my husband 45 mins from Mooresville (off Brawley) to Southend in Charlotte.
Mooresville schools are also better than North Meck, IMO.

I'd have to agree with the others and say Mooresville... I mean if you're going to work in Mooresville, it seems logical.

There's always been 2 sides to Mooresville with 77 being the divider... The more "desirable" areas were West of 77 (by the lake) and the better value was East of 77. From my experience this is accurate as the shopping / eats favor the lake side. It's also kind of proved out with the East side of Mooresville being hit a bit harder with property values - from my own research there's appears to be more distressed properties there. You also need to factor in much heavier traffic on the West side.

If you asked me 2 years ago, I'd push the West/Lake side - specifically to keep an eye out as things moved up Perth. Things are different now with word I'm getting that northern Mooresville on the West side will be sent to South Iredell HS. This isn't a huge deal, but it's worth investigating in that Lake Norman HS has a much better rating on greatschools. Also of interest is that I believe the charter school has taken over Mount Mourne (East of 77) - again, not a huge deal... actually this is interesting because the lake side people will be sending their kids East of 77 <gasp>.

Now / today - I'd say to look all over Mooresville with an open mind to West or East of 77... great values to be found on both sides. Just do your research.

ChiToNC is on a distinguished road
Just moved from Chicago to Cornelius for job in Mooresville (exit 33). Exit 28 is now 4 lanes, so no traffic issues w. cornelius (15 min commute and i'm way at end of Jetton Rd). Exit 25 (Hville) is nice, but lots of stoplights to get to highway (commute still under 20 min though). Davidson is great, love the main street shops, college feel. A bit more expensive and you get into farmland quick. One thing to watch out for is well water and septic (although it doesn't bother many). DM me if you want our realtor who knows this area well. TONS of parks in the "tri-city" area, but heard up north Mville/Stvlle is lacking. Welcome. No Costco/Trader Joes/Chipolte up here though
