Also, with geocaching, we have events were we meet other cachers and get to know them. So you can have a network.
Is geocaching expensive?

You need a gps. They run anywhere from $50 and up to several hundred. Depends on what type you want and how many "bells & whistles" you want.

There are a lot more, I mean thousands, of geocaches around compared to letterboxes. A lot of geocachers do letterboxing too.

Just in the state of NC there are currently over 8100 geocaches that are active.

I will have to check out a site for more info to see what is required beyond the gps thing. I am thinking the geocaching sounds more like something for DH because of the gps thingy. But we definitely like the practically no cost asset of it as well. Thanks for your help. I will keep "digging".

We just came back from our first one since purchasing some basic supplies. It was a lot of fun and so great to be outdoors as a family.

I meant to add too that after joining atlasquest.com, I did some poking around on their message boards and as is true on this forum, the North Carolina Letterboxers forum had more hits than any other state. I thought that was interesting.

If this job hunt ever takes a turn in the right direction, we will definitely place one when we finally settle in. We have decided to postpone putting our house up for sale until we have a job offer. Until then, we are finding the few located here in RI. Cannot wait to do some in Charlotte.

Same as geocaching, except the caches are listed under the terracaching website instead of the geocaching website.
