Default We're going to Charlotte in June! Where to stay, where to avoid??

We bought our plane tickets to visit Charlotte from June 1 through 6. Yay!

We plan to spend a lot of our time visiting/driving through a bunch of suburbs and neighborhoods to get a feel for what we like, and where. I think we're primarily going to focus on Matthews, Ballantyne, Mint Hill, Waxhaw, Weddington, Indian Trail, Ft. Mill, Tega Cay, and Huntersville, since they seem to have what we're looking for (price range, amenities, proximity to possible jobs, etc), from what we have been able to find online. We also plan to visit Uptown, Lake Wylie and/or Lake Norman, Southpark, etc, to have a look around the city and see the sites.

We'd like to stay in a hotel somewhere kind of central and easily accessible, in the south Charlotte suburbs...maybe Matthews or Ballantyne. Does that sound like a smart move, or would it be better for us to get a hotel room in a different location, considering what we'd like to accomplish, and the places we'd like to visit while we're in town? We'd prefer to stay in a hotel that is rated about 3 stars or more, but it definitely doesn't have to be anything fancy (less expensive is definitely better)...just clean and well-kept and in a safe/nice area in or around the areas we'll be visiting while in town.

Any suggestions from those of you who live there, or who have recently visited?

Any specific hotels to avoid (because they have a bad reputation or you had a bad experience recently)?

Any help is much appreciated!!

I haven't stayed here but it looks nice enough from the outside, located off rte 77, exit 23 in Huntersville. Safe area. About 26 miles from Fort Mill area.

I deally you probably want to be close to uptown charlotte since it in middle I have Seen good deals on "The Blake" It use to be adams mark is under rennovations or double tree hotel gateway village.

It might be best to divide your destinations into each day for instance arrival day enjoy uptown next day lake norman , Matthews the day after etc etc.

We stayed at the Hilton in the Southpark area several times.

Marriott Residence Inns are great, they feed you! There is one in the same area, South Charlotte, off of the 77.

There is also a Marriot Residence Inn in Piper Glen, which I believe is in the Ballytine area. It's right of 485 and only a few minutes from Route 16.

If you stay at some of the hotels on exit 25 you should be able to do all your Lake Norman browsing. Quality Inn is less than desirable the rest are pretty good.

Hi Aoyas I would recommend the Hampton Suite & Inn

located in Phillip's Place. Good central location, close to Uptown and the highways. You can stroll in Phillips Place grab something to eat in one of their restaurants, shop and people watch at night.

You can also try looking into the historic Dunhill hotel in uptown Charlotte.
