Could someone give me information on the North Charlotte area and Catholic schools in that area. I told someone we were looking at north of Charlotte area and she said the traffic was too bad (my husband would work at the airport). If someone could suggest the name of neighborhoods in north Charlotte, that would be great($300,000-$400,000). Also, is crime a major issue(shootings specifically). I live in a suburb of Memphis and I live in fear everyday that my family will be the next victim. Thanks!

I believe the only Catholic high school is in So Charlotte - that is what I remember from when I was considering moving there. It would be a loooong drive at school hours.

What do you consider a long commute? Since 485 was completed on the west side, it is not such a big deal to get to the airport from Huntersville, for example, if you would be traveling on 77 to 485 to the airport.

Default Near the airport is a development called the Vineyards

Hi - there is a development off of I-485 which is at the airport exit. It is called the Vineyards and we will be moving into it the beginning of next year. That would be very convenient for your husband's commute to work and maybe doable to south Charlotte to the school. Since I do not live there yet I cannot give any expertise about the commute to south Charlotte. This development is a DR Horton community, with some of the homes being built on the water (this will be done in the future) and has different price ranges. If you want to know more, our salesperson has been super. Her name is Shannon and her email is "SLCunningham@drhorton.com. Tell her lot 26 suggested you check out this community. You can PM me if you want any additional info.

The only Catholic school on the north side of Charlotte is St. Mark's in Huntersville. It is K-8 and has a great reputation. As Ani said, you could easily live in Huntersville and use I485 to commute to the airport Be aware, most of the Catholic schools do have waiting lists, so check in to that early.

Default Mountain Island Area

Consider the Mountain Island Area...it is up hwy16 north and has two very nice developments in your price range: Mountain Island Harbour and Overlook...nice, safe and family friendly with growing Catholic numbers. Both are an easy drive to St. Mark, a k-8 Catholic school in Huntersville and St. Patricks (k-5) and later Holy Trinity (6-8th) near uptown. The developments also are not far from the airport at all.

Finally, the Catholic High School...the ONLY one in Charlotte, is on the far South end. There is a bus from the Mountain Island area to that school (and to some of the schools listed above). But if you want to be near lots of Catholic schools and later the high school, you will need to move south of the city and fight the traffic to the airport each day.

Just to let you know there are plans in the works for a Catholic H.S. in North Charlotte. If your kids are young it would def. be in place by the time they got in H.S. Charlotte Catholic H.S is overcrowed and this would take some relief off of it.

IMO, Huntersville has a bit more to offer than North Charlotte - taxes are a bit less, and crime is much less of a concern.

There are many neighborhoods in the price range you mention. If you are looking at new construction, consider Vermillion, very interesting neighborhood with unique homes, and very close to amenities.
