I think this pretty much demonstrates who knows what they are talking about. Fault me for my math skills in calculating percentages in my head, but they definitely didn't get what was requested. Your own links prove that. I thank you.

So just like every entity that depends on tax revenue, they’ve had to cut their budget, but when the numbers improve, which they most likely will, they’ll revise the budget again. Long story short, the line could very well still open in 2016.

This was to complete design work for the NE line. I think some are confusing the fact that they will seek more money after the design work is done. But that was always the case. They won’t seek that money until 2010 or 2011, which again, was always planned. So to be clear, CATS is on track as far as getting federal help with the line.

Good post - thanks Carolina Blue

Ok, let's try this a third time...

^^^^The statements above are inaccurate. CATS cannot apply to fund the lines now, and no new lines were ever supposed to be up and running in 2009. CATS is currently in the "design phase" of the NE line, which is what they requested funding for. They received $24 million, and are on schedule to complete the NE design phase next year. Also, the North Line's design phase has been completed and a decision will be made on both lines after the NE line is designed.

I hope that was nice enough

I didn't see the post that got deleted, however beyond not addressing anything that I have posted, simply stating that I am wrong and posting some web links that contradict your own argument isn't much of a debate. I am not unused to this because people tend to get lost in the holding the transit agency accountable vs spending money on transit. It's two totally different things.

CATS can apply to the feds to build the line any time they want to. The reason they don't is they don't have any plans the government will fund. It's the TTA in rerun.

I honestly don't know why anyone would defend their record. They are collecting somewhere around $75M/year in the transit tax yet all they apparently seem to be able to do is to build one way over budget, value engineered line in 21 years. it is a huge mismanagement of tax dollars and one that should be placed under review. CATS has not one date on the books for getting anything done. If you ran a business this way it would be out of business. Nobody expects government to act as efficiently, but good lord, it's not unreasonable to ask them for some hard dates and then if they can't meet them either scrap the plans and do something else. Otherwise, we simply are not getting what we are paying for.

Burr and Hagen were irresponsible for approving that earmark, and it was nothing but an earmark, without some accountability attached to it, but then again it is an earmark. The city of Charlotte last night was even more irresponsible for approving $4.5M to continue studying the $500M streetcar line that has no identified source of funding. Even CATS won't touch that one now.

Our opinions on a location or issue are just that, opinions. Highly subjective. Personal preferences. Quirks, even. Leave wiggle room for dialogue, others may not see things the same as you, or been there as long as you, and any one of us can be wrong. Pouncing on someone you disagree with runs contrary to the spirit of this board and its members. We are here to help each other.

Also, FYI, the engineering work for the North Commuter line is finished. CATS is simply waiting on the design work for the NE line to be completed so they will know exactly how much money to request from the government in total; and if to request money for both lines, or just one of them. Next year, or early 2011, whenever the NE design is done, the regional transportation committee will vote on what to do next.
As I explained above, the process has stages, and thats the way it works, anyone can Google that. I didn't make this UP.

This is why I don't argue with web links. It's easy to find anything to say anything.

I am not interested in their processes. This is what they get paid to figure out and manage. I am simply looking at the money they are getting and the lack of accountability for results. And lack of results. In 2007 they said the LRT extension and North CR line would be built if the people voted for for the tax by 2012. They said they could build a street car line, they proposed two of them. They said they would build BRT or LRT to SE Charlotte by the end of the next decade. Now none of that is going to happen. LRT extension is delayed to 2019, the North CR line is not being built, the street car has been dumped onto the city of Charlotte, and the rest, just ink on paper.

Results vs promises and money spent. They don't have it.
