I was having a chat with a friend in another state and she was raving about this co-op programs she has going on. For x amount a month, each week she gets a box of veggies and dozen of fresh eggs. All locally picked and packaged for her. She also buy a portion of a cow from a farmer and gets meat that way.

Do we have anything like that here?

I did see some meat sold at Matthews Farmer's market, anyone ever gotten that?

Is the farmer's market near the airport any good? Worth the drive from near Matthews where I live?

The farmers market at the airport is OK, but it is a lot of re-sellers which means you may get the same produce you would get at a grocery store...is not all like that but some if it is, make sure to ask when you buy where their farm is. You are closest to the best one which is in Matthews...a lot of the local chefs use this market. Also the Tailgate market(which is uptown near fat burrito), and the Meeting street market(in ballyntyne) are some of the best as they are all locally grown products. The tailgate and the meeting street market off some meats, i.e. grass fed beef and eggs sometimes. I have gotten grass fed beef from meeting street and it was excellent and for a great price too, it comes frozen.

For the co-op style products you should google Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms near the charlotte area, there are a whole bunch of them that do exactly what you had asked about. The other option is a company called Absolute Organics Absolute Organics, LLC - Organic Produce Charlotte, NC which delivers a box of organic fruits and veggies to your home or office.

Yes, there is a home delivery service like that here called Absolute Organics. I used to get their box for a while. I don't remember if they had eggs or not.

There are also a few CSA farms, especially in the northern end of the county where you agree to purchase so much from them each quarter, and they provide a box each week of fresh seasonal vegetables, meat and dairy from the farm. CSA = Community Supported Agriculture. I have not tried any of these, but I have heard through word of mouth they are great. Unfortunately I think there is a waiting list for most and most don't do home delivery. You will have to go to a pickup point.

We are participants with the following:

Poplar Ridge Farm - Organic CSA - Charlotte, NC

Baucom's Best 100% Grassfed Beef

There are many other such opportunities in the area. PM me if you're interested in a produce co-op. Great value however, the produce is not necessarily organic. Items purchased from restaurant suppliers.
