Is it true that you must pay taxes on your dog, and if so, can anyone give me an ideal of how much (if living in Charlotte)...
In NYC, we pay an annual license fee of $8 per dog (if spayed/neutered), but that's it
Thanks

Um, not sure where the tax on dogs came from. Mecklenburg County has an annual license fee requirement of $10 for neutered/spayed pets - cats and dogs. You can also get a 3 year license for $25 if you have evidence of your pet having had their rabies shot the previous year.

Here's a link to the Animal Care and Control information on licensing -

I guess people have been saying that as an exaggeration like everything but the kitchen sink. They tax everything including your dog

NO, there actually is property tax on your purebreed animals. Just don't know how much it is.

That is ridiculous. Is this if the dogs has papers or bought from a breeder? Some dogs may look purbred but how would they know?

I have a purebreed dog - and to my knowledge I have never paid a tax on her.

The closest that I found was a tax on dog shows. http://www.dornc.com/practitioner/co...-2004/VI-B.pdf

Check here. N.C. Department of Revenue: Home

If your dog is not spayed or neutered, the license is more expensive.

If your dog is a show dog, you can request an exemption from the higher licensing fee, if you can prove your dog has been in sanctioned shows within the last two years (I am not positive if that is two years or one year, but I am thinking - the past 24 months).
