Another thread brought to mind that I have been meaning to ask others for their experiences on areas here in our region that are known for being spots for repeat accidents.

This can be when there is bad weather (hydroplaning) or b/c of merging issues, or just b/c people are for some reason more often idiots at those spots.

I think it would be very helpful to newcomers if we would share our experiences.

I get frustrated on I-85, after I merge from 485 . . . on up to Gastonia. Sometimes it is worse traveling North from Gastonia. This can be really bad on the weekends, not just during the week. People slamming on brakes, merging without signaling, etc.

Just wondered what areas you consider especially hazardous and that you feel others would do well to remember as problem spots - and be especially cautious.

I agree with you on 85 south to Gastonia, nerve wrecking...

Here are a few more.:

Very easy to hydroplane on 485 between S Tryon and I-85 when it rains.

Merging from 485 inner to 77 north during rush hour.

Idiots who zoom up Johnston Rd to break in the long turn lane line to get on 485 inner going towards Pineville. I really believe someone will get shot one day because of this.....

Interesting thread, Ani!

Hwy 51 (Pineville-Matthews Rd)... I have seen so many accidents on this road over the years with all the traffic whipping in and out of shopping centers and side roads. I know at least one accident that has happened in the last couple of years has been a fatality, and I wonder how many more there have been. Driving on Hwy 51 always makes me super-cautious.

Turning left out of Reverdy Lane onto H51. There is an accident there 3 times a week.

one more...getting on 277 from 77 north and taking the Carson Blvd exit. Crossing 3 lanes of rush hour traffic in less than 300 yards.

77 & 485 in Pineville. Its like bumper cars. The two roads come together then it drops down to two lanes and has confusing exits. Its a total hazard.

There's the whole 277, West Blvd interchange heading South on I-77. The people merging on to 77 have to fight the people trying to get off on 277 and they have about 200 feet to do it. Not to mention that the people who are merging on are basically trying to do so from a virtual stop, while those trying to get off are flying around 70 MPH. Seriously one big mess...

I knew you all would make this a great thread! Keep the info coming!

I totally agree with what each of you have written. This is very informative and hopefully, will help others be prepared for these potentially problematic areas.
