I would tend to believe it was out of round tires (unfortunately very common around here) instead of struts. If you want to find out for sure from people who really know, go to Carroll Aligning Service on S. Tryon. They are much better than those chain store service places.

Thumbs up Hess (not the gas station), near Ikea

I've had good experience at a garage called "Hess" over the past 4 years. It's just south of Ikea, on the other side of Tryon, next to Enterprise rental car. The place is not affiliated with Hess gas stations--Just happen to have the same name. The owner recently expanded to a second location in Monroe.

Info: Hess Tire & Automotive (http://hesstires.com/AboutUs-New.html - broken link)

Welcome to the club. You are absolutely corrrect!! I took my car to a shop on S.Tryon to have an inspection of the brakes done. The inspection was $44USD. Following the inspection , I was told that my brakes were completely shot and the guy who test drove it said he couldn't stop!! All the while I sat and watched this transpire. They told me some BS about the entire system requiring replacement and it would cost me $1500USD!!! I tried everything in my power to refrain from laughing in his face , but to no avail. He was becoming ticked at my laughter , but I just couldn't stop!! This was 3 weeks ago. Turns out the only thing wrong was air in the system that I remedied myself after leaving work one morning. They told me all sorts of 'tales' of 'people' in my predicament that 'were no longer with us' because of crashing into trucks , cars , even lakes!! Lesson was for me to purchase a repair manual and do that s--- myself , that way if something is not correct , I'll be the one to blame and remedy without paying in appendages.

They will rip you off with a smile on their face! Do not be fooled be the externals there, it may look nice and seem professional but it's nothing but a money making machine. They tried to charge me thousands for a $250.00 job. Thank goodness my DH knows something about autos! I do not say this lightly............never take your car there. There are many fine independent shops that will do a great job on a Toyota.
