Wise move. Please let me know if you find one. We are thinking about investing in some Gold as well and have found some good resources on-line but nothing locally.

There is a coin show this weekend in Hickory. I thought I would go there to see if I could scope out more about the local situation. It's primarily concerned with numismantic investing, but I'm sure there might be some leads on local bullion sources too. Not sure about mail ordering gold.
I am starting to get pretty concerned about where the Federal Reserve dollar is heading.

I am happy to hear that people are starting to finally wake up. This system we have in place now is a total failure. I remember over the Summer I made posts like "Surviving the Dollar Collapse" and people back then did not want to hear it. The Government has been printing trillions of Dollars trying to prop up the economy and the stock market but it is not working. I was expecting the stock market to have lost a little more value by now but the plunge protection team has been working hard at throwing artificial money into the market. This can only go on for soo long before something gives and that something will be the devaluation of the US Dollar.
You are right about getting into Gold but I myself have been a Silver person. I believe the return on Silver will be much greater than what Gold will be. I also don't want to freak anyone out but there may very well come a time within the next few years and maybe even sooner that Gold and Silver will have zero value but lets not go there just yet

Most of our coin collections have been through auctions. You have to really be patient though. Some of the ones we go to the people run the prices up.

I'm not looking to collect coins for their numismatic value. The US Mint sells bullion gold coins (in addition to proof coins) for people who are simply interested in owning the metal. It's a good way to hold gold because it's pretty portable and gold from the Mint is regarded to be what it says it is. The congress set this up a couple of decades ago for a way for Americans to purchase gold without having to go to foreign sources. However the Mint does not do direct sells of bullion coins. You have to buy them through authorized dealers and that is what my question was about.

I have had good experience with apmex.com. Bought some silver off that site and they have a huge range of products with competitive pricing. Coin shows are good to go to for bullion as well. I picked up some silvers bars at a show they had in Charlotte a few weeks ago.
