The town of Davidson is in no way comparable to NY! Maybe a 1/10 model of Ithaca or something.
Never said it was, but it is closer to what the OP described without the compromises that you are mentioning. Beyond a couple of blocks, Midwood nor Dilworth are that walkable to things needed for day to day living and they suffer from the single demographic gentrification problem.
Everyone that is familiar with Brooklyn and is reading the OP knows what the OP wants.That being said can anyone respond directly and answer the question??

Aside from not having a kmart, Dilworth probably comes the closest. It was originally a "Streetcar suburb", so not completely planned to be autocentric, and not planned around a shopping center. Mostly older houses, established trees - and as has been said here, walkable to parks (Latta and Freedom), Restuarants (from classic hamburger joints like Mr. K's to trendy places like Zen to some of the cities best like Bonterra. Walkable to a medium sized Harris-Teeter and in time, a second grocery store (Bloom) Walkable to numerous coffee places, bagel shops, etc.
I'm in my mid thirties, married and have two young children (2yrs old and 6months). I have an amazing job offer in Charlotte but I'm not sure if I should take it or not. I'm having a hard time finding information on the type of neighborhood that me and my wife like to live in. Any help on whether such a place exists in Charlotte would be very helpful.
We would like to find a neighborhood to live in where it is possible to spend you life without getting in a car. What we value most about Brooklyn NY is that within a twenty minute walk we can pass restaurants, cafes, bookstores, supermarkets, a playground, a kmart, a movie theater and places to shop for clothes and toys and such.
I've been searching this forum and others but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really want this job but don't want to lose the feeling of living in a neighborhood.
Well, not sure how to say it so i'll just say it. If you are moving from NY to here and like it in NY, you are going to miss it. Charlotte is a good city with good people, but you can never get the northeast feel here..anywhere. That is not to say you should not move or won't love it. Just be prepared for something very different. its been 3 years and i am still adjusting.

Not sure what happened to my first post, but I'll repeat what I said here: half a day is horribly insufficient to look for a neighborhood, IMO. Even for a low commitment ratio decision like renting. Personally, I would plan on a long weekend at least.

Chantilly is a great little pocket, but a little bit cut off by Independence on one side and the railroad tracks on another. Great neighborhood, though.
Love Elizabeth. Close to uptown, great streets like Greenway, 5th, etc. Walkable to some restaurants and a few shops, but not for amenities like grocery stores.

I think jp03 is right. This is the key. You have to adjust your expectations. You're not going to find "the northeast feel" here. We are not in the northeast.
