Default Horse Lover

Are there places to live where the horseback riding is good in and around Charlotte? We are looking to buy a property with land to have horses & dogs but we would like good out-riding away from roads. Would also like to meet similar equestrian minded folks. Are their any websites or clubs that we could look at? We emigrate from the UK in the spring next year. Thanks in advance.

Weddington, Waxhaw, Marvin
Here is a good realtor website, these cities are in Union County, area 10.

You may also want to check out York County, SC. Those cities would be Indian Land, Fort Mill, Lake Wylie.

Latta Plantation

N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation: - Welcome to Lake Norman State Park

Doesn't specifically mention if horses are allowed on the trails-someone else may know.

You may want to check out Black Horse Run, an equestrian community in Indian Land (which is located in Lancaster County, SC, just across the border from Charlotte). If subdivisions don't appeal to you, there are also a lot of rural properties with horse barns and acreage in Indian Land.

I keep thinking that's York County for some reason, I can never remember Lancaster.

Union County, NC; Lancaster County, SC & York County, SC are excellent horse areas. NC is a bit pricier than SC. I'd also recommend checking out Clover & York, which are both in SC. The growth down there is definitely horse friendly. As a matter of fact, York County is in the process of locating a tract of land for agriculture/equestrian use that'll host all kinds of livestock & horse shows as well as being a site that people can use for meetups, schooling/training their horses and possibly trail rides.
