technically it is a *community*...
there is several places there with that name attached. The concept of Birkdale was based on community living. It is quite nice up there, I don't visit but once or twice a year and always see lots of changes when I do.

We live in Ayrsley, which we think is a really nice community. They have townhomes for sale (and a few for rent) as well as two apartment complexes, one of which is brand new and the units look really nice. You can take our word that it is convenient to CLT as one or both of us flies just about every week - we can get from our front door to the airport in about 15 minutes.
There's a website for the community at About Ayrsley.

Are there any nice cities or towns near Charlotte that would nto be to far of a drive to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport that have decent apartments or homes to rent?
Thank you very much in advance

I recommend you look at either Belmont or Fort Mill, SC - these are great small town choices with good commutes to the airport. Welcome to the area!

I think my point is clear. It is a village anyway.

I'd suggest that you do searches of what is for sale as well as rent on Realtor.com. That will give you a better picture.
If you look in Gastonia, search 3 times. Each time add a different street to Gastonia. Use Hudson, Robinwood, & Hoffman. The searches will bring up a slightly different mix of housing for each search. There are some very nice houses in that part of Gastonia & some very nice rental communities as well. From that area of Gastonia it would be very easy for your husband to get on I85 at the Cox road exit (Exit 21) & it would be easy enough to get to the airport.
Good luck finding a place that you are comfortable with.

I strongly recommend Indian Trail/Matthews area. I'm also a small town boy and just moved to Houston last month. I can't stand it.
Indian Trail is a very nice SMALL town. I think it's about 30 minutes from Douglas and 25 from downtown Charlotte if theres light traffic. Anyways, Indian Trail has very affordable homes and I know of one apartment complex that is very nice yet fairly cheap. Check it out it's called Meridian Apartments.

I live in the SW part of Charlotte -Steele Creek area- (near the state line for South Carolina). My husband works at the airport and it takes him about 20 minutes to get to the airport.

lol @ charlotte being a big city...you mention that you're from a small town, so i can see how you'd think that...must be a really small town, tho.
try matthews, tho. it has everything that you need without going into charlotte...its a long commute to the airport, tho.
anyway, i couldn't for the life of me see how someone would be afraid of "the big city" of charlotte...
to anyone that has been to both, is las vegas larger than charlotte or around the same size? just curious...
