Default Nervous about moving to Charlotte

Does anyone know of cities maybe that would be close to Charlotte Douglas International Airport? My husband works for US Airways and will most likely be tranfering there and Im really nervous and scared about Charlotte. We live in Las Vegas right now and this city scares me. Im a small town girl so big cities really get to me. Are there any nice cities or towns near Charlotte that would nto be to far of a drive to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport that have decent apartments or homes to rent?
Thank you very much in advance

The closest cities to the airport are...Belmont, Mt. Holly, Cramerton and not to far away is Gastonia. Also, you would not be to, to far from the South Carolina line.

If you were looking to rent, there isn't a lot of decent options directly around the airport to choose from. Your best bet would be to look IN Charlotte or the smaller out-lying areas I mentioned.

Don't be scared about Charlotte, it is a beautiful city. It does have it's issues but it will be no worse than where you are presently.

Good luck!

If you like small towns Fort Mill or Tega Cay, SC would be within driving distance to the airport.

People are friendly in Charlotte. Don't worry. Woodlawn/Runnymede and Myers Park areas are nice areas to live in and close to the airport. Charlotte has 4 beautiful seasons and great people. You are two hours to the mountains and 3 hours to the ocean and about 30 minutes to Lake Norman where fishing and boating abound.

You will love it.

You could also try Stanly/Denver/Lincolnton area. All still a reasonable drive to the airport, and small, quaint towns.

Stanly county is small and rural for sure! The drive to the airport is doable.
The towns/cities around Charlotte are nothing like towns/cities in the Southwest. There is a lot of country everywhere here. If you haven't seen the area you'll be suprised.

Birkdale, Cornelius, Mooresville, or Davidson are all safe, great towns. Birkdale, Cornelius, and Davidson are normally 20 minutes from the airport or downtown. Mooresville is about five to ten minutes longer. It there is an accident on I-77, add one hour to the above times. Seriously, these places are safe, walkable, and kid friendly. Don't sweat the crime. Charlotte is like other larger cities but probably safer. The other cities mentioned are nice as well.

Welcome to the area. A few more details will help us give you more helpful answers. What is your budget? What size house or apt. do you need? How far is your husband willing to commute, 30 minutes, 1.5 hours?

What do you like and dislike about Vegas? What would you like to have in an ideal town?

Seems at this time, she is only trying to evaluate the crime situation.

Birkdale is a housing development not a town.
