Given the quality of the meat and the bun, the markup on these burgers is probably about the same as any other item from a restaurant. Eating out is almost always going to be more expensive.

I just can't picture having another fast food burger after eating at 5 Guys, to be honest. The other day I was in a hurry and grabbed Wendy's. It was pretty nasty.

Thats a big reason why places like Big Daddy's and Fuddruckers do business. Many people want a quality burger and will not eat fast food no matter how cheap it is.
Im not saying thats right or wrong, its just reality.

Jack, you're right. Also, keep in mind that more & more people are on medical diets & while they can no longer eat at Mickey D's, they can eat at these intermediate places.

I love 5 Guys, especially since I first enjoyed them in Maryland when they opened. But the experience of being able to sit down with a big mug of your favorite beer (BYOMug night on Wednesdays), and being able to completely customize dozens, if not hundreds of combinations of burgers and salads at Big Daddy's just can't be beat.
Plus, they have unique side items and appetizers. My husband and I went on BYO Mug night a few weeks ago, each had a large mug of our favorite brew and a burger and a large salad, and got out for around $30. If you order apps, and upsells like extra toppings or different meat, etc. it will cost you more of course, but I find that a simple salad, or any one of their regular burger combinations, really works for me.
Each restaurant is a different experience, and I'm glad they're both in the area. 5 Guys isn't a "burger bar" and doesn't try to be. Big Daddy's isn't a fast food joint, and doesn't try to be. That's fine with me.
