Smile Relocating from Buffalo NY to Charlotte NC

Hi, I'm new to this forum thing and have a few quick questions. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Media Communications and an MBA and am currently an Interactive Project Manager at an advertising agency in Buffalo NY. Working in an ad. agency is my dream but I've grown tired of the dark (and very cold) hole that has become Buffalo NY . I am having a hard time finding a job in Charlotte (possibly due to the fact that many employers see my NY address and don't want to pay for relocation- which isn't a problem for me). I'm thinking of making the big move during the Spring (April/May) and am wondering if anyone can recommend any companies ad. agencies or employment agencies that can assist me in my quest to land a job. At the same time, I feel that it may be slightly easier to find a job if I just moved and had a permanent residence in Charlotte, but I'm not 100% about that. Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

I would not come here without a job lined up especially if you have a job now. Buffalo might seem like a dark hole, but Charlotte is gonna look a lot worse when you land here and find that having a local address and phone number made no difference to your job prospects.

Do you have any friends in Charlotte? if so I would suggest using their address on your resume. I moved from Rochester, NY to Charlotte earlier this year and I love it here.

Don't blame the lack of jobs on your address - there really aren't enough jobs in Charlotte right now for everyone already here! But I can completely understand your desire to move, so I'd say just be willing to wait a bit, maybe even another year. Get registered on sites like Indeed and Dice in the meantime. Best of luck to you!

If you like your job I'd say stay put. The employment picture in NC is bad. See this.

Maybe all you need is a vacation for a week. Just my 2 cents.

Yes I have friends and family there and in Atlanta and have tried using their addresses prior to obtaining my current position to no avail. Thank you for your response!

Oh, and did you have a job when you moved? If not, how long did it take you/or how long is it taking you to find one?

Our unemployment rate is 8.4% and we're the 3rd poorest city in the country, so is Charlotte really much worse? Lol I did hear about Dell though

You have no idea...

See, this is a great city, beautiful, wonderful to raise kids in, clean, with really nice weather. So people have flocked here from all over the country - especially the northeast. We are not poor or downtrodden, we are very desirable compared to many places like Buffalo.

Our umemployment is some of the highest in the country for a city our size - almost 13% right now. This is because even after the banking crisis and lots of layoffs in the financial sector, people like you have continued to come - not believing that they won't find "something". Well, the truth is, there are just too many people here currently for the job market to handle.
