Default Charlotte vs. North East NC

Hello out there! Me again, I'm thinking that perhaps we need to broaden our search for teaching jobs. We are focusing on applying with the districts/counties that are all part of the Northeast region because we love the mountains so much (that's why we're in Utah right now..but the Mormon culture is TOO strange)
Anyway, I'm not sure how successful we'll be in obtaining teaching positions in that area, so we're going to extend our search further south around Charlotte. Just how far from the mountains is that? It looks doable on a map, but you never know until you're there. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

The map can be very deceiving the mountains are only within 2 hours least to Blowing Rock and about 3 to 3.5 hours Asheville The foot hills which include Hickory , lincolnton, Elkin, Wilkeseboro are within less than 2 hours

Default I'll vouch for the desolate mountains

Mom and I tried to drive to Cherokee, to the casino...we missed our exit on 40 and hit some pretty dang desolate mountains.....all we saw was a rabid cat and welcome to TN signs...that drive was 4.5 -5 hours....

Normal populated mountain areas should only be about 2.5-3 hours from Charlotte. Asheville....that's the only mountain NC place I know actually...
