Oh, yeah. They have been in the region for many years.

I have never heard one here - but have in another county.

My Dad told me last week he and several of his neighbors heard coyotes recently in Watauga and Caldwell counties.

Dad also saw a black bear just standing there (on all fours) on 321 N right outside of Blowing Rock two weeks ago. The bear was off the side of the road, watching the cars - completely out in the open! This was maybe 3 miles outside Blowing Rock.

Well, they sound like a high pitched dog when howling. Hehe, I hear one right now.

Ah, then you'll have to see my post above and listen to the different sounds they make. It can very eerrie and sometimes sounds like children crying.

**Very important-keep small dogs and cats inside. Back in CA we had them clear 6' brick wall fences with no problem!

Just recently the singer Jessica Simpson watched as her dog was snatched by coyotes, although this was in CA.

I live near the railroad tracks that go into Union county. It not rare for deer to follow the tracks . Im only several miles from downtown and once saw 5 deer in my yard. The other night I did hear something I though sounded sorta strange for it to be a dog. Maybe it was a coyote.

Check out page one of the thread, I posted a site that has 22 different coyote sounds. Any of them sound familiar?

I know some of our neighbors are concerned for their newborn calves. Also small goats and sheep are targets for coyotes. One coyote will go after small critters but a pack of coyotes will attack larger animals.

They may want to think about purchasing a donkey.

Using Donkeys as Guards
