Our neighbors have been hearing them lately, I'm in Weddington. Here's another thread on the subject. I posted some good coyote facts on page 2.

As ani said they have been in the region for many years. I recently saw one in Steele Creek (SW Charlotte).

Coyote population steadily rising in N.C.

Quote:
The coyote population has steadily increased over the past decade, with all 100 counties now reporting having the animals.

Although state wildlife officials do not track the specific number of coyotes in the state, they say the number of reported sightings is on the rise in both rural and urban areas.

one night while driving down carmel road towards 51 , we had a coyote cross carmel
right in front of our car.
for doubters, it was very clearly a coyote, absolutely no doubt amongst all of us
in the car.
Carmel road ,as in two miles from southpark.

I'm talking about Stanly county, Albemarle area but they are in every county from what I have read. Last night was crazy again with them howling. Such a mournful howl!! When I lived in CA in the cyns I was use to hearing them but this is new for here for me!

They are in every county in the U.S. You're bound to hear them or see them eventually. And they're harmless to humans.

This just seems crazy to me to hear coyotes at 9:30 AM. I don't mean just one yipping but several howling and yipping. In broad daylight. I can't see them but they don't sound all that far away. In CA I would hear them in the evening and at night and maybe spot one running in the daytime but not so many yipping during the day. Guess they hunt here in the day and night??
