I looked at Aldi's web site and noticed they tend to start their cashiers between $11.35 and $12.65 an hour (the higher was in Chicago area). Their store managers start at $22 an hour. Their benefits look decent as well. Maybe Aldi is a really fair place to work for? I plan to try to find out!
The good thing about the way unemployment benefits work is that they are monetarily based - so if I work part-time and earn $200 in a week - and my allowance is $120 a week - the $80 diff is taken away from my benefit this week and is tacked on at the end. So it helps to draw out unemployment benefits ... not a bad strategy in this tight time. It's a good argument for not just collecting benefits and looking down at part-time work. (Yes, I know, it's tough to even get a part-time job right now!)
