Hey all,

I am heading over to Charlotte in Jan/Feb 2010 for 3 weeks to participate in a program on American Education. I am just curious as to how much money I should set aside for meals, entertainment and travel etc. Accomodation is paid for and includes some meals, so I was wondering if you would be able to point in the direction of some places to eat, sights to see amongst other things.

Also, I have heard and read a bit about the weather at this time, but would love to learn some more about it from people who actual live there and aren't just reading some meterological chart or whatever they are. I am from Australia and live in an area that doesn't really get all that cold.

Any help would be brilliant.
Cheers.

It would probably be best if you could let us know where your Accommodations are located, and then it would probably be possible to let you know where the best places to go....shopping, dining....and other attractions.
The first few things you might want to think about is getting a coat and gloves...it might be quite chilly by then. Of course, a light jacket might work, where you can do some layering of clothes.
I hope you will enjoy your trip!!

January and February are very unpredictable around here. It could be really cold, but we have also had some fairly mild days over the years in those months. Bring layers would be my advice. There are lots of dining establishments near the University area. Try University Place - we like Zapatos (Mexican) and Lava ( eclectic-upscale). There are some shops there, but nothing real exciting. You aren't far from Concord Mills - a large "outlet" mall with many restaurants and other shopping nearby. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Breakfast is cheap if you can keep some food around that doesn't need cooking ... fruit, cereal, milk, etc. A few bucks a day.

If you eat out every day, figure $8 for lunch at a "chain" or "corporate" place, and up to $15 for somewhere interesting and individually owned that has table service.

Dinner can be a little more than lunch, or very pricey, depending on what you want to get.
