Talking You're only allowed to say positive things

I think a thread like this is long overdue. The point is to state the general area where you reside in the CLT metro area, and to say good things about your area - restaurants, stores, etc. And to the mod, I hope this doesn't fall under any advertising rules. If so accept my apologies, and delete.

So here it goes. I am in the Lincoln County area a little past Pumpkin Center on the outskirts Lincolnton.

1. The service I have received at Abernethy Chevrolet in Lincolnton is absolutely the best, top notch staff. I would never take my vehicles anywhere else.

2. The BBQ-King in Lincolnton has great BBQ, plus fantastic chicken sandwiches, the best hamburgers and french fries, and they never oversalt their food.

3. Our downtown center in Lincolnton is really a beautifully quaint Main Street, especially when it's decorated around Christmas time. The spouse loves this little clothes place called Hilites. There's a frame shop (can't recall the name offhand) that we used for our lithographs that did absolutely professional musuem quality framing. Also, there are several jewelry stores that have reasonable prices and do excellent repair work.

4. Aunt Bessies - good Southern food, almost as good as Grandma made, at a reasonable price.

5. Very caring folks at the Lincoln County Humane Society as well as the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. Highly dedicated volunteers, they do the absolute best with what they have to work with and every time I drop some food off there I see a lot of improvements. We have adopted two wonderful members of our family from both organizations.

6. House prices here are still very reasonable in comparison with the rest of the counties around the lake. You can chose from older established to newer subdivisions and the houses usually are on decent sized lots.

7. People still remember please, thank you, and generally hold doors open for the next person coming in as they are going out.

8. Even thought we are about 30 miles out from Charlotte, it's still an easy commute into the city.

9. The Lincoln House has fantastic eggs and bacon, and their strawberry pancakes are huge and delicious.

Okay, I'm drawing a blank, but if I think of more, I'll be back.

Remember, you can only say positive things. Notice how much of it always comes down to food.

I like this, Jim. Great idea!

I live in the City of Kings Mountain. The neighbors on my street are all lifelong residents & very nice. It seems that most of the people out here have had good experiences with Michiganders, from people who came down here when the furniture industry moved down from Grand Rapids. They also had good experiences with Philadelphians, from when the mills moved down here. Since I am from both places & mind my own business, it's worked out better than I could have hoped.

I can get to Shelby or Gastonia for shopping in about 10 minutes, Depending where I'm going in Gastonia, 15 minutes, at the most. Cherryville is just up the road & Lincolnton is just beyond that. Charlotte is 30 miles from me, & like for Jim, it's an easy drive.

There's a new BBQ restaurant in town that won an award in Lincolnton last summer. When I feel better, I want to check it out.

I don't care if I have to drive a little way for most shopping, but I like a good supermarket nearby & close proximity to Aldi. There's nice Aldi stores in Shelby & Gastonia. The big Ingles supermarket is about 3 miles from my house.

I am absolutely positive. Now, I suppose some high brow brainaholic will ask why? Go ahead. I must warn you I might not be able to answer tonite as I am about to go into a drug induced state of homemade pizza, chicken catt., mashed pot., bottle of wine, cigar with Yankee game and brandy nite cap.

I'm drifting deeper....deeper........gone.

GO YANKS!!!!!

Brian, pink...I think that you are wrong. I think that we need some positive info for any of the newcomers that are coming....

I live in the University area of Charlotte, specifically Faires Farms. This is an established neighbourhood with lots of trees and wooded areas, so, it is quite pretty. They are building a large church in the neighbourhood and it is nice to watch it grow.

This area is quite close to just about everything. 7 minutes to work, much less than that to Harris Teeter. Little bit more and I will be at IKEA and Walmart. Lots of good restaurants, Kohl's, Sams, all kinds of shopping areas. The University is at my door as is the Cato campus of Central Piedmont Community College, where I also attend. On that side of the area, there are lovely rural areas, and Reedy Creek park which also has a dog park.

The neighbourhood is somewhat fragile, however, we have people from around the world living it in. The church that is being built is a Romanian Baptist Church and the congregation are all immigrants from Romania. Many Asian Indians, Chinese, and Latinos from all over South America to name a few. Of course, we are now getting lots of folks from around the US moving in now, too. There are lots of foreclosures, thus, lots of good bargains. You can get a lot of house for your money here.

Traintrack is on a distinguished road

"The self-esteem/positive thinking/self-help movement has turned out to be one grand failed experiment in psychology. You can't just tell people (or yourself) that they/you are esteemed, accomplished, and happy. You actually have to do something to earn the respect of others and yourself, and in the real world the doing also involves failure. In this hard-hitting but honest appraisal, America’s cultural skeptic Barbara Ehrenreich turns her focus on the muddled American phenomenon of positive thinking. She exposes the pseudoscience and pseudointellectual foundation of the positive-thinking movement for what it is: a house of cards. This is a mind-opening read."

Sylbeth is on a distinguished road
These are just a few positive little things that I have done....perhaps not worty of mention...but maybe others might want to pass it forward:

Before I leave the ladies room, I always leave the paper towel dispenser down for the next person to be able to dry their hands...hoping that they will in turn follow suit.

For the last few years, I have been growing my hair for the Locks of Love Foundation. Just recently, I had it cut (the ten inches that is required) by a very nice stylist in Stallings (Tina at Good Lookin). Hopefully, I can find a group here in Charlotte that sponsors Locks of Love.

Collecting Eye Glasses, New or used gently used blankets, and umbrellas for the Urban Ministries....as well as for several other organizations.

Volunteering to babysit my two grandsons, so their parents could go out on a "Date" night. Sometimes that is the best gift you can give (your time) to hard working and sometimes very tired parents.

Okay.....I've let you know some of my positive thingys .....now lets see if others will follow with their own..............LET THE POSITIVE THINGYS BEGIN............................................. .....

Hi, Jim

You indicated that you were a fellow Paramusite in the cupcake thread that got cancelled because of some terrible negativity. I wrote you back and asked how you knew me and that I was from Paramus but you probably never saw it b/c it got cancelled right after. Can you PM me and tell me if we graduated together or if we went to the same high school? I looked your screen name up in my yearbook and my husband's yearbook and there is no such name for the years we graduated. I thought you might be just using the actor's name from Taxi or something? I am also curious b/c my brother, who also is from Paramus, coincidentally lives up in Lincolnton and I thought possibly the both of you might know each other.

Would love to hear from you.
