McAdenville
Do you go to see the lights? Is it worth it?
We're contemplating it this year when we'll have relatives here. But I want to make sure it's not a "bust" as it's certainly more than an hour's drive from where we live.
Thanks!
Sara

I guess it depends on what you want to see.
If you want to see some creative use of lights ...it's not that impressive.
If you want to see an entire neighborhood where everyone has lights and each one looks the same as the next....well..that will work.
The homes all look the same and when you get to the very end there is some lights over the water and a few shops...but overall... I wasn't that impressed.
If you can plan a day doing some other interesting things and include that as well...then it might be worth it.

I'm fairly new to the area so I've never been, however, last year during the holiday season we were traveling on 85 and I saw a long line of traffic backed up along the shoulder at the McAdenville exit. Personally, I would hate sitting there waiting, but maybe the line moves fast. Not sure.

Personally I grew up seeing the lights in Tanglewood so I cant compare. The Lights in Tanglewood in Clemmons are phenomenal. However you want to go during the week and right at dusk.
I wasnt impress with so called Tinseltown as I can see local neighborhoods that really go all the way out

I agree. It's more of a traditional thing than an "ooh, awe" experience. I took a few of my friends (Gaston county natives) to see Tanglewood's lights and they were blown away. One advantage McAdenville has is that their lights are free.
Here is a related thread What is the hoopla over McAdenville

It's not that it is impressive, but it is nice to see the town get into the spirit. We went last year, it is about a 45 minute drive for us. To me it was worth is because my kids loved it. We played Christmas Carols on the radio. It was warm enough to have the windows open and everyone was wishing each other a Merry Christmas.
