NY to Charlotte Movers
Hi,
My husband and I are moving from The Bronx, NY to Charlotte this summer- we are not taking a lot of furniture- basically the equivalent of a one bedroom apartment...
Any recommendations of a reliable but not-too-expensive moving company? We will pack all of our stuff- we just need a company to load our belongings, drive down and unload in our new apartment.
thanks!

Sell what you can and get new stuff here.
We Uhauled our stuff from NY to Charlotte and it was a nerve biting white knuckle experieince. We wound up driving back to pick up my car because my husband couldn't manage the uhaul and the car in tow for 12 hours.
Also Uhuals max out at like 60 Miles Per Hour, the rest of the world moves much faster then that and when we got to NC = we got to meet the local pawn shop folk's because that's where uhaul used to drop off and rent trailers. Our expereience was the pawn shop is the hot spot, bellsouth had a booth at the pawn shop where we had to pay our deposit and then use a payphone to call in to get our home phone turned on. They forgot to tell me this when we set up our new service.
We also paid LOTS of deposits for utitlities. I couldn't get a bank account becasue I had a NY Id. What a pain for paychecks. We didn't have any trouble once we took the written test and got instate drivers licesnes.

I think the best way to handle the bank account is to set one up where you currently live, i.e. Bank of America, Wachovia, etc. Something that can be used in NC and easily transferred. Then when you move all you have to do is inform them of your new address and order new checks. We move frequently and do this all the time, even use our old checks until they are gone. Or if you have investments with Merrill Lynch, they have bank accounts and it's the same deal.

We moved from NY to Charlotte last September. We us U-pack from ABF freight. They are like pods. We had the equivilent of a large 1 bedroom up there. It cost us $1100. They drop the boxes (pods) at your door. You load and lock-your own lock-noone else can access your stuff. You have 3 days to load. They pick up, then deliver at your new door, also 3 days to unload. Worked great for us!
Also remember, when you do your 2007 taxes, your moving expenses will be deductable!

I am moving from Raleigh to Charlotte and I am scared. I am getting an estimate from a mover tomorrow. I just hope it's reasonable. Any other suggestions from Raleigh to Charlotte movers? I don't have a NC licsence but I don't have a car either and I don't rent or lease. I don't plan on changing my licsence anytime soon. I will just get a non drivers licsense instead.

I left all of my living room furniture. For the rest, I drove my things by UHaul (but would recommend going with ABF UPack) and when we got here (hot August day!) I put an ad on Craigslist and got some awesome guys who came out and unloaded the UHaul in record time (up three flights of stairs). Much cheaper!!

I practically sold everything I had in Brooklyn and moved here. The only thing that I transported to Charlotte was stereo, 1 tv., cds and clothing. I purchased everythign anew within one month of coming here. I put my bonus the side and used this as my moving $$$. My apt was totally decorated within 6 weeks with everything anew. My perceptin is a "New Me" and a "New Life", so everything was built from the begging. Good luck!
