Building the new arena did cost the taxpayers plenty. Who paid for the old one that was torn down?. And who suffered the LOSE of over 30 million that was still owed on it when it was torn down? And who do you think paid for the muti million doller clean up of it when it was demolished? Millions and millions down the drain and dont forget the old arena on tyvola was still an excellent building that was fit to serve for many more years,,,,all wasted.. Yes we are bitter and will STAY that way. At least the big deal makers got their pay and the banks made their money,,,go figure.
Apparently some of you didn't live here when George brought the NBA to Charlotte ... WOW in the beginning it was awesome for Charlotte and the surrounding area ... we had two season tickets and the arena was packed ... Feb 10, 1991 we even had the NBA All-Star game.
Then George developed his 'Napoleonic personality' and he was in our face in the newspapers, on television news, in court rooms with his shenanigans ... it wasn't the team that turned our area against the NBA ... it was all the c r a p that man pulled.
The owner of the Bobcats could care less about his team ... if anyone recalls the Charlotte Bobcats hoped to get in the play-offs and became the first NBA team in 12 years to close the season on a four-game road trip ... why... because of a horse jumping show that had the arena covered in dirt -- and it was no secret that the owner of the Bobcats daughter was competing in the event. The owner just felt the arena should be used for other things besides basketball.
Then along came Jerry Richardson and the Panthers.

agree to disagree
The team did not do this. Your locl politicians did this. And you aren't paying for it.... so why the Anger. BTW, did you vote today?
yep, vote every year by absentee
Typically of many attendees. They go to see thei favorite team and could care less about the local team. Bobcat tickets are pretty reasonable. I wonder how many of these "fans" could afford to go see their favorite teams at their own arena. Do you have any idea how expensive Laker tickets are??
I'm what I consider a loyal fan, been rooting for the same 3 teams (Indians, Browns, Cavs) since I was a kid. i happen to own PSLs to the worst team in NFL, I just choose NOT to attend the games until they put a better product on the field.
That's not his job. There are managers that actually handle operations.
Accountability starts at the top,he hires the managers
Really, only minorities to coach and run the operations?? I would invite you to take a walk through the offices one day. Unless they've hired some extremely fair skinned Black and Hispanic people, you are just wrong. Dead wrong. That fact that you say this tells me a lot about you.
I don't know how people can say that Bob Johnson took no interest in the team. I'm a season ticket holder, but a small fry. I find Johnson to be approachable and responsive -- at least he has been to me. And I think to season ticket holders in general. I have found the local community extremely rude and unwelcoming when it comes to the Bobcats. How many more times will someone say Larry Bird should have been the owner. Well, he wasn't, so move on. Johnson has lost a TON of money on this business venture and the organization has made some mistakes. But it really is a great event to attend and to bring your family to. What more do you want?
It would be too bad if the team moved elsewhere but that seems to be what people here want.
We need a star player. I kills me to see the Bobcats lose so many games by under 5 points (a couple of years ago)! I don't even watch the games but I keep seeing how close we are to making a change for the better.
Curious. Is that something the new team is responsible for or is that the result of political wrangling between Shinn and city officials?

People can give opinions on a forum - and it is perfectly acceptable. People can't boo an owner - it is inappropriate and classless. So, you can give an opinion is a nameless forum but not in person? There are two ways to give an opinion to an owner - not show up or boo - it sounds like Charlotte is doing both!
Owners are accessable - you saw them at the game. Players are accessable - they have an annual shoot around with kids. You've talked to the owner once at a season ticket holder meeting. Great - sure sounds like they are accessable to me.
Why do you think the jouranilist are against the team? ANSWER: because no one is accessable. No interviews, no expalanation for trades, directions, etc... Do you expect journalist to love the team they cover when it has no public voice? Access is the sole reason for the angst from the sportswriters.
Yes - I had a good time at the game. I was using free tickets and sat on 3rd row, where my daughter could see the effort and sweat of the players. I would never pay the money required to sit there under normal circumstances.
To sum it up - the value to cost equation is no longer in line for me in the NBA.

No, there is a time and a place for everything. The whole purpose of a message board is to voice an opinion. I don't get to call you names or talk about your looks or threaten you on a board - that is inappropriate. People exchange thoughts. Sometimes you learn something new or change your opinion or just gain a better understanding for the other pov.
As far as Charlotte is concerned, you voice your opinion by staying home, not buying tickets or merchandise, supporting some other event, voting in elections. I find booing and hissing to be classless and inappropriate in any venue. Booing/hissing lacks basic common courtesy. My opinion.

That's fair, but unfortunately, that's the direction of all professional sports events.

Well, I guess the sports fans here just aren't up to your standards, lol. Seems to me that your glowing opinion of the management and team isn't shared by everyone else.
Maybe that means nothing. Maybe it means something. You still didn't answer as to whether or not you handle some of the PR/marketing for the organization - or one of their affiliates.

I think I said that about 4 posts ago - and that is why I go to 30 high school basketball games a year.
$5.00 tickets, free parking, $1.00 popcorn and cokes, no lines in bathrooms and second row seats. Athletes that my children can idolize, shake hands with, get pitching lessons from, talk to their parents, etc... My children now want to grow up and play high school basketball - they could care less about the NBA!
I am a huge basketball fan with zero interest in the Bobcats. I donate a lot of money each year to the high school basketball team. I could spend it with the Bobcats but choose not to do so. I would rather support a grassroots product where the athletes are accessable and interested in mingling with their fans. The players know my kids' names! The players come to watch my children play recreation basketball as a team.
Are you here to contribute to the discussion or are you simply overly invested in my comments? If you aren't here to contribute, but to bother me, that's a violation of TOS, isn't it?
And if you really want to know what I do for a living, search my posting history. I'm sure I've mentioned it a few dozen times.
