We were wondering how to go about getting a sanitation job in the Charlotte area. In New York there is a massive waiting list that my brother in law waited years to get his job. He was wondering how it works in North Carolina. Is there a waiting list? Does it help that he is already a New york Sanitation worker? What is their starting salary there? Any information would be helpful to us! Thanks in advance

WOW! I think this would be quite a transition! From the little I know about sanitation work in NY, I don't think your BIL is going to find anything comparable by way of salary or security here in the Charlotte area. I'm really surprised that he would even consider leaving such a position.

There's also lots of private carting companies outside of Mecklenberg county you might want to check out as a possibility.

For public garbage, go to the charmeck.org site to research possibilities. You could do a google search for the private waste companies.

My understanding that the owner of Hawk Sanitation is also a former New York sanitation person that got tired of the conditions, came down here and started his own company. Very successful! You can look up their number to get some real info.

I know in NY most of those jobs are union, here in NC they are private sectors. Most people pay for an independent company to pick up their trash, atleast from what I've heard at work. I don't think it would be compareable cost wise or salary wise NY Union Job vs Charlotte/Nc sanitation.

Good Luck.
