Went here yesterday out of curiousity. It was a nice surprise. There is a petting section with numerous birds, goats, sheep and the usual "petting zoo" things. Afterwards we drove through the animal park. It was very nice with a huge variety of animals, perhaps an overpopulation. The animals practically hijack your in their attempt to get some food. There are horse drawn rides available for a small fee and the kids are able to stand up, pet the giraffes and even bison from their carriage. It isn't a great zoo, but it is a nice getaway to take the kids or for adults. Get in free ads are often available in the newspapers. The Safari Zoo is on my "to do" list as well. It is also a very pleasant drive out in the country. For those that have inquired about boiled peanuts, there is a store about a mile or so from the Lazy "5" (that you will pass) that sells them and other items.

That really is a great place. Watch out for those emus though and the little pigs!! It is a great place to get away and have a lot of laughs and some great pics! You might need to wash the car when you leave out of there with all the licks from the animals!!

It isn't actually called the Safari Zoo, but it is a drive through type. It is in Asheboro, east of Charlotte about 50 miles I believe. I have heard good things about it.

Oh, cool. Ill have to check it out. When you do go there this restaurant Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffeet - Asheboro Restaurants & Bars - CHOW
that is really nice. They had all kind of sushi, stuffed zucchini, and mushrooms, all kind of asian dishes, and even had american for the picky eaters. I think Ill plan soon to go that zoo since it kinda warm.
Do they have a website?

There is nothing drive through about the zoo in Asheboro (unless you count the tram that can take you the length of the zoo).

I am tentatively planning on heading there over Christmas break with some family that is visiting. I hope the weather holds out. Need to call Lazy 5 and ask if that time frame still works to see most of the animals, if not all.

We'll have many kids with us and are looking for something different to do with them.

Thanks. I haven't been yet. A tram will work. Is there a walking option?
