Default Berewick/Steele Creek commute to Uptown??

Anyone live here? What would be the commute in peak traffic times from around this area?

geesh, you only waited 32 minutes! the board gets busier when people get home from work in the evening. Your commute time from Berewick would be about the same as from Ayrsley, probably 30-45 mins. depending on traffic. There are a few back ways depending on where you need to be uptown. I know Metallisteve used to live here and maybe he commuted uptown? If he doesn't come on here, look him up and ask him.

If you drive like you post, my guess is it'll take you about ten minutes.

The best route I found from Berewick was to go 485 Inner (north) to I-85 North and drop down Freedom Dr. (exit 34), then onto I-277...then off at whatever ramp I needed. Leaving home between 7-7:30am, I'd be to work by 8am with no problem. CLICK HERE for a map. This was by far the easiest, least stressful, and usually the quickest way to Uptown from Berewick. Dare I say that there is never any traffic (as long as there's no accident--maybe once every other month). Plus, it takes you right by a Bojangles on Freedom Dr. in the morning so you can drive through for breakfast!

I tried the Steele Creek Rd./160/West Blvd. route once. It takes you through some not-so-nice parts of town and wasn't really faster (red lights, lots of others using the route), so I ditched that.

I also tried 485 Outer (south) to I-77 North...the shortest way by distance, but I-77 gets clogged in this area during rush hour.

The real trick was finding a good way back into Berewick after getting off of 485. 160 would be a parking lot from way before the 485 bridge to past the Shopton traffic light...and you'd have the pricks who'd zoom past cars in line down the left turn lane and butt into traffic at the last minute. I haven't lived down there for over a year and a half now and I understand they've improved the 160/Shopton intersection, so it may not be as bad as it used to be. I used to take Dixie River Road to Windygap Rd. as a back entrance into Berewick...but I think Pappas Properties has this area all torn up right now, so it may not be possible. You may just have to stick it out and take the front door.

One regret I have is not using the light rail to ride into work. You could drive to the park-and-ride lot at 485 and have a nice easy train ride into work every day: CLICK HERE You'd be going against traffic in the morning and afternoon getting to that park-and-ride.

it is not backed up so much anymore. There are now two ways into Berewick off of 160 and I have not run into traffic since.

Good! That was a huge drawback to living there. I can't believe Pappas was allowed to get away with murder by opening that large of a neighborhood without upgrading those roads. Just a gleaming example of his ability to screw the taxpayers into paying for his profits...he's hones it into an art really.

I live in Berewick. The best route is Steele Creek Rd to West Blvd, then all the way to South Tryon. It takes no more than 20 minutes. No traffic at all. Avoid 485, 77 or 85. It is pointless to drive South on 485 to connect to 77 when Uptown is North of Berewick.

This is truly the shortest route by mileage, but like I said, the neighborhoods it goes through leave much to be desired and the roads can get just as clogged as the interstates with traffic lights and just slow moving drivers. It's a generally more stressful drive than the route I took (485-85-Freedom Dr.) and not worth the 5 minutes it'll save.
