Default It's Official- We're Moving to Charlotte

Hi Everyone,
Well after 15 months on the market our home finally sold in RI. We are moving to Charlotte in 6 weeks. I can't believe it! So my questions are... Which area should we buy in ?? My husband is retired, I am not. I am in the health care field so I will need to have fairly quick access to a hospital. We really don't want to live in the middle of the city, but would love a small suburb or town with conveniences. Would love to have a downtown area with shops and cafes, nearby parks, dogpark would be nice too
Although we don't want acreage we dont want the Desperate Housewives look to our neighborhood. Just a little distance between houses and I love trees, got to have trees on the property. We are looking to spend up to $250000. No townhomes or condos. So far I have come up with Matthews, Pineville, South Park area. Am I off base with those choices?? I appreciate any input you all can give. Thanks to all of you in advance.
Patty

If you are planning to work on one of the Charlotte hospitals, Presbyterian or CMC then SE Charlotte is a good bet (what you posted). However if you get a job in one of the suburban hospitals such as Presbyterian in Huntersville, then I would recommend you get a place local to one of them given what you said. Huntersville easily meets all your criteria, but it really depends on which hospital that you want to work at.

as lumbollo said it really depends on which hospital you are going to be working at.
the two hospitals have satelite locations in several suburbs.
$250.000 price tag wil pretty much keep you out of the southpark area.

I would say Matthews, possibly the Blakeney area as well. Blakeney does not have a true downtown area, but there are outside walking malls that are very nice.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this yet (as it seems to be the mantra on this board for incoming residents), but, in addition to basing your location on the hospital you are going to work at, you may want to establish that first. You cannot assume that the hospital that you choose to live closest to will actually become your place of employment.

As long as I'm within a 30 minute drive to a hospital I would be okay with that. I won't be looking for work until sometime next year. We are buying the house first, before I get a job. Is Monroe more rural than Matthews?

I forgot to ask earlier: What do you consider small?

Congratulations on selling your house! We've been in NC since we left southeastern MA in 2007. Weather is great, and the traffic is better. It can be quite heavy during the rush hours, but you don't sit forever like you do in many areas of RI & MA.

Yes, Monroe is more rural than Matthews. I'd love Monroe if I didn't work near the Metroliner. It's further out than Matthews.
