I enjoy cooking and experimenting but we have a few dollar friendly spots to patronize as often as we can and we are usually enjoying other peoples company at the same time and I don't have to clean my house. I said I like to cook not clean.

We still do like to try new places and like spiderbear mentioned, with all the coupons and deals circulating aroung town, it really becomes budget wise.

Anyway, for those cooking at home or anyone who just likes pictures of food, check out one of my favorite sites www.foodgawker.com

heartsN Charlotte, that foodgawker site is great! They link to recipes on other websites, but what a treat to be able to visually scan to find what you want. Thanks!

... to answer your original question, I am. I spent over $250 last month on take-out food and said, somethin' has to change!! That's ridiculous- that's almost a car payment.

There were a ton of other cooking classes as well. Here is their spring catalog for continuing education.

We eat at home mostly, we're in the "countryside" in Gaston County and although there are good restaurants to be found they are a distance. I like to cook, one of the pluses of unemployment is I have more time to do so. Learned to bake bread, grew some veggies and herbs this past year, it's therapeutic!

We don't eat meat much, but I know I've seen a fair number of local farmers who sell their meat at the Farmer's Market up on Tryon.

We are probably eating at home more. I'm sometimes too lazy to try to deal with 3 kids and a restaurant!

I do notice that I pick and choose where we are eating out more carefully and try to consciously limit how often we do go out. So maybe we have changed our habits.

When we first moved here I think we ate out more b/c it was exciting to try all these new places. Where we lived there were more chain restaurants than unique but affordable places. However many affordable places add up!

Let us know the pricing of the meats.

At the place I mentioned, I just bought some meat at the following prices:

Lamb (bone-in) - $4.59/lb
Boneless Beef - $3.59/lb
Chicken Leg Quarters (with skin) $.99/lb

They said the pricing fluctuates though.
