Annoying calls from Bargain Max
Is anyone besides me receiving pre-recorded telemarketing calls from Bargain Max? Never heard of this store so I looked it up and it's on E. Sugar Creek Road. I'm on the national do no call list. What does it take to stop these annoying calls? Actually, I know the answer to that, and yes, I'm very close to jumping on the bandwagon and getting rid of my land line.

Wow, that's pretty weird. Are they asking for donations or something?
It's a grocery-salvage type store, catering almost exclusively to lower income shoppers. I'd call up the store and ask to be removed. The ladies who run it are really nice, and I'm sure would gladly remove you from the list. They're a pretty patchwork job, so I'm assuming the problem is more ignorance of how to make sure they don't contact people on the DNC list rather than blatantly disregarding it.

Thanks for your reply spiderbear. No, they aren't asking for donations. The messages are from Pam the store manager announcing special markdowns, so get on down to the store!
I called the store this morning and left a message on their answering machine. Obviously no one else here is getting the calls. Just lucky me.

^^^^ started reading the regulations on "no calls" last nite. They are quite complex but I did note one paragraph that says if you don't answer the phone (I think you said tha message was on your machine) it doesn't count as a call. In addition I believe the company calling must subscibe to the data and this costs money. The regs go on and on about exemptions--and these could be the reasons you continue to get the call.
I found the regs thru Google.

They have a 'calling list' that people have to sign up for. Perhaps someone wrote sloppily and then it was mistyped into the list and that's why you are getting calls now. They probably don't even check against the DNC list because it doesn't apply if you request/give permission for the company to call you. Of course YOU didn't request it...but stuff happens sometimes.

It occurred to me that the Wilson family who previously had my number probably signed up for the calls. They are highly sought after by the collection agencies too. I know because I've been serving as their unpaid receptionist for the past year.
