[quote=baybook;11578636]I don't have a problem with Nascar.

We are glad because if you did, we would tear down the building and immediately halt the racing.

I think the complex they are building downtown will be great for the area. I even supported it at several community meetings/viewing when I moved here (GASP!).

.And we are glad to have you and you support in our community

I don't see why there chicagoubs needed to be mocked because he/she expressed the same.

It's the "Hall of Fame" and marketed this way - same as Cooperstown

Did you ever figure out the state that hosts Coopertown

, the NFL HOF, etc. I don't see it as part of Southern Culture. Nascar is an American phenom, not limited to the "south". I don't think my opinion marginalizes the industry, the impact, the patrons, the employees of NASCAR at all, nor was it an attempt to do so.

Your apology is accepted.

It's really not a big deal. But I really don't get why we "mock" postings on this board rather than attempt to understand a point of reference.

LOL! And you are the one questioning this?

ETA: It's called the NASCAR Hall of Fame, not the NASCAR Museum.

I am confused with this thread? Are we getting two museums? An Art Museum downtown will be great for the area and the culture. Are we also getting the Nascar museum? I say the more the merrier. Bring them all.. Jobs, culture, tourists..... what's the problem???

Afro-American Cultural Center

We currently have an Afro-American cultural center out on East 7th Street. The new one (that just opened) is an upgraded replacement for the one on 7th. This new AA cultural center is located in the "Cultural Campus" on South Tryon Street.

Mint Museums

We currently have the Mint Museum of Art at 2730 Randolph Rd. We also have the Mint Museum of Craft and Design on North Tryon Street uptown. Next year, these two (I think) will be consolidated into the new Mint Museum inside of the "Cultural Campus" on South Tryon Street (basically a one stop shop).

Knight Theater

Quote:
A valuable addition to Charlotte's performing venues, the Knight Theater will provide audiences a new and exciting cultural experience, and will allow for great diversity of programming with the Belk Theater, Ovens Auditorium and Booth Playhouse.

Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

The Bechtler will provide visitors, members and students with stimulating programs and educational opportunities that highlight the strengths of the Bechtler collection and nurture a deeper appreciation of art.

Nascar Hall of Fame

Located just three blocks east of the "Cultural Campus" Uptown is the Nascar Hall of Fame.

Discover Place

In addition to everything that is going on at the "Cultural Campus" area, Discover Place is currently getting a MAJOR renovation.

This is the first time in the Museum's 27-year history that we have had an upgrade of this scale and we are excited to re-imagine a Discovery Place experience that presents contemporary science through engaging and fun activities for visitors of all ages.
