As a veteran that served 25 years, thanks. There really should be a military spouse recognition day as well. Sometimes I think that my wife went through more hardships than me. She was the one that had to stay home and pack, get the kids registered at new schools, help the kids with homework and transport them to scouts, etc., get everything set up to occupy new quarters, take care of the bills, deal with the kids when they screwed up at school or went through the awkward teen years and take care of minor home repairs while I was away. It takes a strong, special person to endure and succeed in life as a military spouse.
With great respect to those who have served and those currently serving, thank you.
When I was 7 my mother and grandmother and I all got POW braclets for the POW's in Vietnam. My teacher noticed my braclet and had me explain to the class what it meant. Ironically, he was her ministers son. He returned home only to be killed in an airplane accident 2 years later. Here is the story of a man whose name I will never forget, Darrell E. Pyle. Bio, Pyle, Darrell E.
Add your memories to those you knew on the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
nascarnancy - thank you for sharing your touching story, I remember all too well the POW/MIA bracelets. Also, I wasn't aware of the Viet Nam Wall site, I was able to locate at least 6 soldiers from my hometown in NJ, who graduated a few years ahead of me. My brother served in Viet Nam with these soldiers that didn't make it back, I'll be sure to forward onto my brother.
