Does DMV accept debit cards or personal checks?

Trying to figure out if I need to make a stop at the bank for cash, first. Hope not.

They take checks but only if the bank has a NC office. They wouldn't take our DCU check until I could prove there was a NC office in Raleigh.

Take cash. That way you are 100% sure they will take it. We found that different offices have different practices too (or perhaps it is just a whim of the DMV workers at the time!) You can always call and ask

I think we ended up having to pay cash because we didn't have checks that had the same address as the one we were putting on the license?? I hadn't gotten new checks yet....ugh!!

They do take checks. But as far as I remember they do charge a processing fee for checks. Take Cash.

Thanks guys! I was able to take care of business with a personal check. Didn't take too long either. I was in and out in about 30 minutes.

I am always amazed that there is anyone these days that will accept a check as opposed to debit/credit. It's so rare that I ever have any significant amount of cash on me these days.
