I've heard CPCC has some good cooking classes. I am interested in something similar, too, so I'll keep an eye on this thread. Good luck!

You know, if you don't find anything, you could always call or email the culinary schools and ask if any of the teachers or new chefs would be interested.

The Morrison YMCA has some cooking classes going on, though I'm not sure the level of experience assumed: YMCA of Greater Charlotte

Thanks so much for the recommendations. Unfortunately some of these look a little too advanced for the person I am looking for, though I think I may want to take some of the continuing ed classes at CPCC, they look great! I may check the Y, though I think they are pretty specific, i.e. fall foods, foods for baby, etc. This person needs the basics, they just bascially know how to make eggs. I do like the idea of asking a local chef or student.

Cooking Uptown (http://www.cookinguptown.com/index.html - broken link) offers classes for varying abilities. They're right off 7th Street & Hawthorne. It's such a cool store! Their class list will let you know the skill level for each class.

Reid's downtown also offers classes.

Harper's Restaurants (Upstream, Arpa, etc) have classes...I think they used to have them on their website.

I second the Cooking Uptown suggestion. I took a class there and it was a lot of fun. I keep meaning to go back but haven't had the funds.
