Hospital Jobs???
Hey there, I am currently in school for Respiratory therapy and was wondering how the job market is in Charlotte? Is it very competitive, is there a lot of openings, competitive salaries, any info at all would be greatly appreciated! Also, I was looking at the condos in south charlotte and they look very nice, and they are only about 90K, is there a catch? i live in cleveland ohio and you cant get that for 140K. is it worth the move to charlotte? I just need to make sure that i will have job security

We have so very many medical facilities that there is a TON of opportunity for someone like you. Yes, the cost of living is very good too! Once you decide on the area, we can probably give you advice on certain neighborhoods and areas....many of us have lived here a long time and will happy to steer you in the direction of a good neighborhood in your price range.
In addition to privately owned clinics, the major medical centers are Carolinas HealthCare Systems (several hospitals in the metro as well as seperate diagnostic and specialty centers in the city), Presbyterian Healthcare which are Novant facilities and they also have multiple hospitals in the metro. Outside the city but still in commuting distance are hospitals in Rock Hill, Mooresville, Gastonia (Gaston Memorial, a CaroMont facility), and Northeast Medical in Concord (amazing facility).
At Carolinas Healthcare alone there are 7 openings for Resp. Therapists (I and II) right now at two of their facilities (uptown and Pineville). Presbyterian has three openings.

I agree with KMWAY there are excellent hospitals in Charlotte and the surrounding cities. I've had health care at Northeast and Caromont and they have been excellent facilities.
You can get a nice house for $140K in Charlotte or in the the smaller areas around Charlotte.
I can attest you will not miss the winters once your here. I love the weather here. Yes, you can make it here.
Good Luck on your journey. I think you will love it here.

You might want to look into polysomnography - very up and coming need here in the Carolinas. Look on the state web site for community colleges.
UNCC is starting an undergrad degree in respiratory.

I'd have to check on the salary, I can't find any figures now. I'll ask around and PM you but trust me, the two of you will be able to live here....there are nice neighborhoods with better prices than where you are coming from. I'll let you know when I find out some salary info.

yeah, id def be taking a paycut but I want to be happy all year round, and not just when its "not snowing" which is only 6 months of the year. I want to be able to look forward to football season, and not want to cry because it snows in october. If it wasnt for my love for Cleveland sports, I would of tried to go to college in Charlotte. lol. Thank you for all of your informative responses!~

Huntersville
Huntersville has a huge medical presence from Presby Hosp to all of the little medical parks. I would be very surprised if you had a hard time finding a job in the med field here...
