There was an article in the paper and on the T.V. news about a month ago announcing that a huge gold find has occured in Lancaster Co. It was also announched that this find would result in high employment opportunities for at least the next 25 years. Has anyone heard anything else about this?

I've never heard about this but via Google I found Gold rush in SC as mine plans to reopen

Romarco Minerals Inc will develop the Haile Gold Mine Project. Here is the a video on the website (http://www.romarco.com/investors/media/videos/ - broken link) about the project.

If this is true, then expect an influx of people here that will be of a magnitude not to be believed. Gold came within a few dollars of crossing $1200/oz this past week, and the US Mint had to suspend sales of it's American Eagle bullion gold coins this week. The reason they gave is they simply can't get enough US mined gold to keep up with demand. (the law requires them to only use gold mined in the USA for these coins) It's stressing out people still wanting to buy gold as the dealer premiums are rising fast due to the shortage.

Interestingly enough, South Africa also stopped selling Krugerrands a couple of weeks ago because it can't get gold for them even though that is supposedly one of the places where there is still production. The consensus seems to be that now that every wants physical delivery of gold, there isn't enough to supply demand.

The people won't come necessarily for this mine, but they will be coming to find others. Charlotte could find itself in the same situation it did during the first gold rush where the population grew 4000% almost overnight. (well..... that kind of increase would be hard now, but you get the point)

I'm not sure Charlotte could handle that kind of boom right now. We would probably be the most erratic market in the country.

This summer I met a woman who said she and her husband had recently moved to Lancaster County from Colorado. When I asked what brought them here, she said gold mining. That was the first I had heard about it. What an interesting venture. I wish them success!

I read an article in the Charlotte Observer about this recently (several weeks ago) but nothing new since.

Sounds kind of fun, but seems like long hours for small profit. Have not tried it myself but given how much fun the gem mining was in Dan Nichols Park, I'm guessing my kids would be thrilled to try for real gold!
