So I am having family come down to meet us in the mountains (Im in Charlotte) the weekend after new years. We are looking for a cool area for a cabin type place to stay for the weekend for 4 days or so. What do you recommend???? If you need more parameters let me know. We would like to find something this week for up to 8 people (4-8) and a dog or two.
THANKS!!!
Not necessarily a recommendation for cabins as much as it is for location, but I'd look into either Blowing Rock or Lake Lure areas. FWIW, Blowing Rock has a beutiful little shopping area/main street that really gets dressed up for Christmas.
I recommend Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. I was there a couple of months ago and I had a blast. My kids loved Ober Gatlinburg & the upside down building (Wonderworks). We book through a site called Gatlinburg Cabins Now and we also used Pigeon Forge Cabins Now. They have a wide selection of all the cabins in Gatlinburg, well all the luxury ones. Some of the cabins there are dumps that's why we choose these site. Seems that they only select the luxury ones. Hope that helps! Have fun!
They're a bed and breakfast that serves some of the best breakfast you'll ever eat. The hosts are great and each room is themed to something different related to NC (complete with its own bathroom too). The location is perfect...literally 1 mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 min from Biltmore, 15 min from downtown Asheville, 45 min to Mt. Mitchell, 30 min to DuPont State Forest.
They also offer a full house rental right next door to the lodge called the Luhn House (named for the owners). You don't get breakfast, but it has a full kitchen and offers the same proximity to all things Asheville. It has three bedrooms and sleeps 8 with the use of the futon in the living room. We've used the house before and loved it.
Bryson City, NC. We rented from Carolina Mountain Vacations and had a wonderful time there. Beautiful views of the mountains.
this area is always MY first choice.
I'd avoid Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge like the plague. It's pretty far away... Plus, I get my neon-tourist-trap-price-gouging fix at Myrtle Beach every year.
