My daughter will be getting her drivers license this Spring and I would like to have her take Defensive Driving class. I've searched the internet and can't really differentiate which may be good class. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with DD courses and if there is one you recommend. I live in Weddington and would be nice if I could find a good one in South Charlotte but would consider other areas. Also, do insurance companies give any discounts on auto coverage for drivers that take course?
Zn - My son (now 17) and I took a course sponsored by Toyota a few years ago out at the Knights baseball stadium. It was a +-4 hour course and a parent was required to attend (kids in one group/parents in another). It was great and I recommend a defensive driving course for all teenagers and their parents! I checked the web - it doesn't show anything listed in Charlotte right now but you could call them (Toyota Driving Expectations).
This is a local non-profit that holds defensive driving courses at the Speedway about once a month and have partnered with the BMW Performance Center to offer a free program a few times a year down there. These courses are available for no cost to your family.
BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC also offers great courses weekly, One day school is $495.00, Two day is $895. BMW North America
Both schools teach many of the same concepts difference being 4hr course with B.R.A.K.E.S. for free vs. 1 day or 2 day at BMW for a cost.
Also check out Drivers Edge. They are a free course and are supported by the race car drivers. My ds took this class 1 1/2 years ago and it was awesome. Parents are required to attend but they related so well to the teens that they get a lot out of it.
my dd will get her license in February and i booked her some more driving lessons.
I have looked at the defensive driving info that has been posted and that looks really good.
Am not real ready for my only child to start driving yet!!!!
All young drivers should take a course. Maybe check out some of the web sites that outline what a good course must include . I wont mention cell phones but these site do.
