Myers Park? This is the NAACP calling...
NAACP takes on Myers Park over "Whites Only" deed | Charlotte News, Weather, Traffic, Sports WCNC.com | Local News
From the article:
“The lot hereby conveyed shall be used for residential purposes only and shall be owned and occupied by people of the Caucasian race.”
That inflammatory statement is the first rule listed on Myers Park’s deed restrictions. Two years ago, Newschannel 36 spotted the wording on a “sample deed” listed on the Myers Park Neighborhood Association website.
...
“The restrictions on race were, of course, declared invalid in the the 1940's. However, the language remains in the documents recorded as historical relic. MPHA has no authority to change this wording as recorded. The original language is offensive. We did not publish this with the intent to discriminate. We did not publish it with the intent to harm. It is regrettable that these words appeared on our site, particularly without an explanation. To those who read and were offended, we apologize. The Myers Park Homeowners Association has never attempted to discriminate against anyone.
...
NAACP President William Barber says the apology is not enough. The organization has been in negotiations with MPHA since the complaint was first filed in 2007. “We don’t know how many people were turned away. We don’t know how many people were affected,” he said. “It’s kind of like speeding. You can’t just slow down. You’ve got to pay the penalty.”

Another NAACP $hakedown.
Here comes Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson...
Unfortunately, such restrictions were the norm and not the exception nationwide in the early 20th century.
In some places Jews were forbidden, in other places Eastern Europeans.
Thankfully, we have come a long way.
My question is what kind of numbskull posts this narrow-minded relic of the past which was declared invalid nearly 70 years ago?
Such language is just bait for groups like the NAACP to which it's never about an apology, but always about the money.
If it comes to a 'cash settlement', I just wonder how the AA residents of MP will feel about their dues going to fatten the wallets of Misters Sharpton & Jackson. Oh, the irony.

This to be expected of the NAACP as that organization relishes in this type of thing these days.
Where the real tragedy exists however is with the bubble heads in the city government. It's the city's Community Relations Committee that is making legal threats against these homeowners. IMO, it is simply outrageous to hold people accountable for a document that was written 100 years ago and which has long since been invalidated by the federal courts. If they want the deeds changed, then let them go pay the costs to have them changed. Geez.
Remember you are paying good tax money for this nonsense. Lets see if anyone on the city council or the new mayor has the kahunas to stand up and say, this is nonsense, the city isn't involved.

The NAACP needs to walk around Hidden Valley and other parts of Charlotte where there are problems with they should be concerned, I.E, teenage pregnacy, illigitimacy, drugs, gangs, no parent paticipation in school or community . This Myers Park situation is an easy fix . Anyone can live in Myers Park. Who cares what happend prior to the 1940s. It doesn't apply today, and those of us living today didn't have anything to do with it. They are "historical" documents . Geeze, I hope such useless institutions don't get "stimulus money". Surely there are important issues since the protests against the Confederate flag has died down.
P.S. I am sure that the issue (if one can call it that) could have been discussed and resolved with Mayor Foxx and /or the city council if the complaint had been presented. Guess this organization has to look as if it is doing something beneficial in order to continue to exist. Seems like their presidents get dumber and dumber. In the words of the famous philosopher Rodney King, "Cant we all just get along?"

Talk about a non-issue. Dang. My ggggrandfather was the largest plantation owner in western NC. I have been trying to find any type of historic document that would show how many slaves he owned and any info I could find out about the slaves and their families. I have found wills stating some names of slaves as they were considered inherited property - their ownership was passed from generation to generation (along with their children in most cases). I guess if I published a will with folks' names in it I would be insulting everyone. I want to establish who the slaves' families may be now and do DNA studies to see if we have black relatives - and if so, include them in our family tree as an act of reconciliation. Seems such silly crap as the MP situation pretty much makes it clear that at least part of the people in the USA are not interested in reconciliation and facing our past for what it was - the facts of that past - and moving forward together.
Pretty damned discouraging to those of us who THOUGHT we, as a nation, had moved past the pettiness. Seems some folks want to perpetuate the politics of grievance and the victimology more than they wish to see people of all races come together in harmony and reconciliation.

It was amusing to hear 2 representatives of the NAACP being interviewed on WBT this morning. If most people mispronounced words like they did, or used the wrong words when they meant something else, those people would be ridiculed and scorned! Not so with these 2 guys I guess.
I have nearly 3 DOZEN regular customers in Myers Park. We've discussed this "situation" over the past year or so, and EVERY SINGLE ONE WITHOUT EXCEPTION has told me that they (my customers, for those that can't comprehend English) wish those restrictions were still in place!!!

The NAACP deal from what I know is silly.
But I can't believe you are saying that you and your customers believe discrimination is acceptable.

LOL! Actually, I recently heard the head of the NAACP speak in a major Ohio city. He didn't know how to refer to Jewish people so he refered to them as, "Dem Jews Peoples". What a brilliant bunch. Seems like it has turned into an organization of idiots and thiefs.
