My husband and I have a day set aside for Charlotte on our drive down to see family in South Carolina for Christmas. We've never been to Charlotte before and would like to get a feeling for the city and what it has to offer.

We currently live in Chicago and my husband is in the banking industry. A possible relocation may be in our future...but we're just in an investigative mode at the moment.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what to see and/or do during such a brief visit? We are particularly interested in seeing some interesting city neighborhoods and other sites to see. There won't be time this time around for museums, shows, etc.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Drive down Queens Road and other streets in the Myers Park neighborhood (very close to downtown). It's the prettiest neighborhood in Charlotte. If you want to see other established city neighborhoods you can drive through adjacent Dilworth, Elizabeth, Plaza Midwood (a tad bohemian), Noda (more artsy) or the historic Fourth Ward (Victorian homes next to downtown).
There are many good restaurants also. My recent favorite is the Crepe Cellar on North Davidson (Noda) as well as Amelie's French bakery in the same neighborhood. Sole in Dilworth also recommended.

Once upon a time, lovesMountains (one of our regular posters), gave me some great advice about driving through neighborhoods in Charlotte. Here's a link to her post - I hope you find it as helpful as I did!

The car tour looks great! We will definitely use it! We'll be there on Sunday.
